NEW SEABROOK DUCK BLIND - Seen only from distance.  One adult at site.  Appeared to bring in grasses or sticks at one point.

13:15 From end of Railroad Ave/Farm Lane in Seabrook, I walked onto the marsh to the E end of Beckman's Island & continued on to the next upland island NE of Beckman's.  The blind was relatively close with relatively good viewing with a scope.

Apparently 2 new nests on duck blinds.  I believe neither has been reported before.  Both are rather shallow with sticks on top of each of the blind.  It's possible both are brand new.  I saw no signs of young in either although 2 adults were on the "Seabrook" nest & one adult was on the "Hampton Falls" nest with no incubation noted.  Both nests are visible from the Yankee Fisherman's Coop, but very far away (~a mile).  From the Coop one is lined up just to the right of the Seabrook Nuke plant and the other is lined up just to the right of the big white building in Hampton Falls south of the marsh area on Rt. 1.

1 Osprey totally submerged to catch a fish, don't believe I've seen this.  Adult Bald Eagle harassed the osprey by descending from high above the trees with talons outstretched.  Eventually a resident Red-tailed hawk caused it to somersault and leave.  No activity at new nesting platform located in top of live pine on Mallago Brook in NW corner of Bellamy Reservoir, ~GPS cords are 43 d 12’ 19.69”N, 70 d 57’ 17.03” W.

12:15 On a drive-by we found one osprey perched in popular snag east of the large old heron nest.

12:03 A brief drive-by revealed both ospreys present in the area.  They were perched in separate snags near the old heron nest.

11:40 As I approached observation site spotted osprey flying south from Rte 111 over the marsh.  When I parked, I found both ospreys present.  Both were perched in the usual snag just SE of old heron nest; M was eating on one of the upper branches while F waited on a lower branch.

DH
13:40 2 ospreys perched in the same snag as on 05/23, but not for long.  Lower bird flew just after I stopped, followed almost immediately by the 2nd.  Both dropped from their perches & were immediately lost in the foliage.  I checked all the snags in the wetlands to see if they'd reperched, but I couldn't relocate them.  They must be off gallivanting.

16:25 M & F perched in same snag, slightly SW of the large nest opposite the driveway for the 2-door white garage at NHDOT.  F was preening near the top  of the tree; M was perched on a lower branch w/fish in its talons, but not eating.  This nest was used by herons last year.  16:46 F vocalizing, then flew to nest.  M remained, but posture indicates he's ready to defecate, which he did, then joined the F at the nest.  He landed on top of her & attempted copulation - success ??  He then flew to a nearby snag to the N & started feeding.  F moved a few sticks on the N side of the nest.  I didn't see her take off, but she flew & I couldn't relocate her in the wetlands stretching to Rte 95.  M remained, feeding.

SM- I meant to ask you if you knew about an Osprey nest that I have been watching on a daily basis for a week or two.  The nest is between South Road in No. Hampton & the Hampton toll booth, in what appears to be an old Great Blue Heron nest.  If you take Rt.111 east from Rt.101 & turn right on South Rd, go beyond the NHDOT. garage & pull over at the 1st break in the trees before the Rt. 95 overpass.  Look to the right and find the biggest old Heron nest.  One of the adults should be in the area.  Yesterday I saw one bringing back a fish.  Strange place for a nest, I thought.

NEW HAMPTON FALLS DUCK BLIND - WITH ONE YOUNG!!   Both adults were on the nest briefly with the youngster.
07/15
DH
12:25 From the N end of the old RR tracks at the end of Depot Rd in Hampton Falls.  Found 2 duck blinds, 1large & empty & the other, smaller with an adult osprey perched on the roof.  Closest view yet, but still too distant for routine observations.  Can't see any defined nest, but roof appears darker than the rest of the blind.  While I was scanning the marsh a 2nd osprey joined the 1st on the roof.

09:00 From end of Island Path in Hampton Beach found several duck blinds well out into the marsh to the south, but the heat waves are tough & the blinds are distorted & the no-see-ums are plentiful.  Next I went to the pulloff at the NW side of the Tidewater Creek bridge on Rte 101.  No no-see-ums here, only thirsty green head flies. From here there are 3 duck blinds in a row well out in the marsh with Seabrook Station in the background.  Appears to be a distorted dark area on top of the east-most, but again heat waves are bad.  Found an osprey perched on an inverted 'V' post north of the suspect blind, but when it flew it immediately disappeared into the heat waves, so I couldn't tell where it flew.  Need a better viewing site and/or a cloudy day.

Two birds in "New Duck Blind" nest spot.  Seems like a new nest spot on duck blind in northern part of Hampton Harbor marsh in Hampton. I saw it from the north end of the Hampton Harbor Marina from the
parking lot at the far north end and looking west or northwestward.
Probably better viewed from the end of Island Path.  It was constructed on the top of a well built duck blind. Two birds sat at edges of the nest/blind, but I couldn't see any heads sticking up out of the nest, but there could have been young in the nest. The nest didn't look too deep.
