Notes:

Cyrus Colby Wheeler enrolled at Tuft’s College in the class of 1906. While at college, he majored in chemistry. In May, 1905, he was forced to give up his college career and go back home to take care of his mother, because of the death of his father. He never returned to college, but instead took over the management of his home farm. For many years he had a large herd of cattle and sold milk at Manchester, New Hampshire; but for the last several years the farm was a market-garden farm, where the main crop was potatoes.

In 1925 Cyrus Wheeler was elected selectman of the town of the Dunbarton. He held this office until 1934. In 1933 he was elected a member of the General Court as representative of Dunbarton. He was an active member of the Executive Board of the Merrimac County Farm Bureau. He was the Merrimac County 4-H Club Garden Advisor. As a person, Cyrus a kind, easy-going man, loved and respected by all his acquaintances.

After the death of her father, Bertha Elizabeth Rouse went to Danbury, New Hampshire where she worked for her board and went to school. She stayed there nearly a year then went to Concord to live at the Rolf and Rumford School for Girls. Until she was nineteen she stayed at school in Concord, then she lived with her mother’s cousin, Enola Colby, at Canterbury, N.H. for several months. In February 1911 she entered Tilton Seminary. Here she completed a year’s study in one semester.

After the end of her school career, Bertha continued to live at Canterbury with John and Enola Colby. It was during this period of years that she met a nephew of the Colbys’, Cyrus Wheeler of Dunbarton, N.H., whom she married on November 11, 1915. Since that date she has lived at the Wheeler Homestead in East Dunbarton

Bertha Rouse Wheeler was a small, vivacious, quick tempered person, who seemed to be able to cope with almost any situation. She was broad-minded and considerate, continually trying to be of assistance to someone. She had a keen sense of humor which was enjoyed by her many friends.
