Girls' Teams at Gym-Ken

Pre-Team meets once or twice per week (depending on skill level) for 1 1/2 hours, Level 3 meets for 6 hours each week (usually broken down into two days). We work on strength, flexibility, and the skills required for eventual competition.  We have two in-house meets to introduce the girls to competition with a very positive experience.

Team practices are held throughout the entire year, including summer.  Each girl progresses at her own rate; therefore, it is important to be at every practice.  Our program is based on the skills in the compulsory routines established by USA Gymnastics.  If a gymnast is not able to perform the basics, it is impossible to progress to the more difficult skills.

Once your child has passed the skills in Level 1-4 and her 6th birthday, she will need a USAG number and a team uniform (leotard, jacket, pants and gym bag).  We compete from September to May.  Our meets are on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.  The meets last approximately 5 hours, plus travel time.  We compete locally, as well as, travel to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and even Disney World.  Meet and coaches' fees are in addition to tuition and are added to your monthly bill.

To move up a level requires, at least, a 37AA score at the State Championships.  Also, a gymnast must be a hard worker, able to "get along" with other teammates, make corrections, and demonstrate the ability to master the new skills of the next level.

After mastering all the requirements of a compulsory gymnast (Level 4-6), we have an excellent optional team program available level 7-10 combines gymnastic and dance skills.  These gymnasts are very dedicated to their sport and work out 4-5 days per week as well as competitions.

Team is a big family commitment of time and money; however, the girls gain confidence, poise, and the ability to set goals and work as a team.
