Spider-Man

I believe this was the last cover I penciled for Marvel. This is my original sketch...
...and here is the printed cover. Inks by Klaus Janson. Cover & scan courtesy Chris Rooks

Ed & Klaus strike again. This is one of my faves.
I drew the story inside too. NOT one of my faves!

Here's an example of an artist (ME) not following a sketch to the letter. Fortunately in this case we had someone talented enough to improve on the design (ME). I don't think this cover quite works, but it's not a bad effort.
The distorted logos became my trademark . I had to work out the perspective manually . When I think what I could have been doing if Photoshop had been available then. Made some real messes I am sure.

We were subtly trying to push Marvel's new Epic line of comics.

I left this scan untrimmed so that Marvel's cover sketch paper could be seen. I usually didn't use these xeroxed templates, preferring to use tracing paper

Amazing Spider-Man #224, a moody piece featuring the Vulture. I have only a vague memory of doing this John Romita Jr. did finished art.
