Fine Motor Activities

Activities to Build Fine Motor SKills

 

· Pick up small items (i.e. coins, beads, pegs) and put them into a container with a small opening (hole cut in a yogurt container top). Have student use thumb with one other finger at a time and do several items per finger.

· Finger Painting

· Finger puppets

· Sorting small objects like coins

· Stringing Beads

· Lacing Cards

· “Pop” Beads or “Tangles” Toy

· Practice buttoning, zipping, lacing

· Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs, Legos

· “Bed Bugs” Game by Milton Bradley

· Rolling Dice

· Using eye droppers or pipets to mix colors

· Playing with stickers

· Cutting: cutting junk mail, playdoh, other thick items in general: Make sure they are holding the scissors correctly; thumb in the small hole, two fingers in the large hole

· Paper Mache

· Lite Brite

· Vertical Surface Activities: forces wrist to be bent back toward arm: Drawing or paining on an easel
