WINTERWORKS paper cuts by Lucinda Clarke are interlocking images
of insects, animals and trees made in the tradition of cut paper snowflakes.
The resulting unique designs are presented in many forms. Individually cut designs are pinned and framed in shadow boxes,
laminated for use as bookmarks, and mounted on hand-painted paper as note cards. Reproductions of designs are printed notecards
and clothing.
I am currently experimenting with hand-made papers made from silk, mulberry and banana. The textures and fibers add
a additional dimension and tactile quality. The mulberry leaves are especially interesting as the veins and structure
of the leaves becomes part of the images.
Lucinda Clarke creates the WINTERWORKS designs in her Portsmouth, NH studio during the winter
. In the warmer months she is a professional gardener on the NH seacoast.
