Originally set up to handle Marc's songwriting catalog with BMI in 1971, Marco Polo Music has grown to include several different specialized musical services, as described on our Landing page, to further serve the musical community. Each service is described in detail on their pages.

Marc P. Mailhot

 

Marc is Founder and President of Marco Polo Music, and was born on April 5, 1951 in Batavia, NY, moved to Westbrook, Maine in 1954, and has lived there ever since. He began his musical career in September 1957 at age 6 formally studying the piano under renowned Maine teacher Louis Sirois for 11 years...and played his first formal public performance in a Piano Recital in May 1960.  He began playing drums in 1964 inspired by his father playing drums before him and the British Invasion beginning with The Beatles. Marc continues playing and performing on both instruments today.

During his career...he has performed literally thousands of gigs with pioneering Maine Bands Love, Inc. and Pegasus in the 1960's and 1970's and currently performs with The Chapparals and as a Solo Artist.  During his 52 year career he has also written...recorded, toured extensively, and produced. As a member of Love, Inc. in 1968 he opened for well known Boston groups The Orphans and Ultimate Spinach and with Pegasus in the 1970's he opened for national artists Bob Seger and Edgar Winter.

While studying the piano he met world-famous piano Artists Roger Williams...Ferrante & Teicher and Loren Hollander. As a drummer he met Gene Krupa...Buddy Rich and original Beatles drummer Pete Best.

Marc taught keyboard and drums at Starbird Music in Portland, Maine in the 1960's and early 1970's. He is also a Piano Tuner and a proud member of the Maine Arts Commission...Portland Music Foundation...and is the Public Information Officer (PIO) for the Maine Songwriters Association.

He continues working on his first solo CD "Coral Sunset" for future release. Three preview tracks of work in progress are currently online on his MySpace page.

Marc is an Alumni of Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, VT and also attended the University of Southern Maine.

Kathleen A. Mailhot

 

Kathleen is Executive Vice-President of Marco Polo Music, was born in Portland, Maine and brings over 25 years of Administrative experience and Public Relations expertise to the Company. She joined the Company in 2007 and accompanies Marc to most Gigs and official Company functions.

Her business and PR experience is extensive having worked with the public for many years, as well as raising their family. Earlier in her career she worked at several well known retail outlets, including a music store in the Portland area where she assisted Marc when he was Manager there.  They were the first husband and wife team in the store's history. Kathleen's Administrative experience allows her to handle many aspects of the day to day operations of the Company while Marc is working on other projects.

In October of 2007 she and Marc attended the official kick-off of the Portland Music Foundation and had the opportunity to meet with fellow musicians and officials from the Maine music business. She also accompanied Marc to the New Hampshire International Drum Expo in Manchester and met with some of the most well-known drummers in the world.  You can see some of her photos on the Vintage Page.

Kathleen and Marc have been married 31 years and have three grown children...Christopher...Shannon and Allison...and four grandchildren...Mackenzie...Noah...Abbe...and Landon.
