Note trip lists will be linked to trips as
they are made available. All trips
leave on time! Please contact the leader(s) ahead of time to let
them know you are coming. All trips will carpool from meeting
place.
January 22 (Thursday).
Ivory Gull Outing, Plymouth, MA.
Impromptu trip to see one of the two Ivory Gulls in coastal
Massachusetts. Stops at Salsbury Beach on the way back and
perhaps other locations.
Leader: Michael Smith. Meeting place: Hannaford
parking lot, Gardiner. Departure time: 5AM.
February 28 (Saturday).
Portland
area. Impromptu trip to chase rarities in the Portland
area - Tufted Duck, King Eider, Varied Thrush. Leader: Michael Smith.
Meeting place: Hannaford parking lot, Gardiner. Departure
time: 6AM.
March 21 (Saturday). Plum
Island, coastal New Hampshire. Trip to look for coastal
specialties, ducks, alcids, Snow Buntings, Snowy Owl, etc. Leader: Jay Adams.
Meeting place: Hannaford parking lot, Gardiner.
Departure time: 6AM.
April 18 (Saturday).
Annabessacook River mouth.
This is a great location for staging waterfowl right here in
Bowdoinham. Trip is timed for mid-tide. Leader: Jerry Therrien.
Meeting place: Augusta City Hall, Augusta. Departuer time:
10AM.
May 2 (Saturday).
Damariscotta River Association,
Belvedere Road, Damariscotta. Leader:
Lionel Quirion. Meeting Place: Hannaford parking lot, Gardiner.
Departure time: 7:00 a.m.
May 4 -8 (Monday -
Friday). Kennebec area spring
migration sites. Early
migration and the start of spring warblers. No
need for pre-contact, just show up.
May 4 - Vaughan
Woods, end of Second Street, Hallowell. Meet at
the small parking lot for Vaughan Woods on Second Street. 7:00 a.m.
Note: Louisiana Waterthrush(es) present.

May 9 (Saturday). Migratory Bird Day. Bird
Walks led by Augusta Bird Club, 6AM, 8AM, and 10AM. Meet at the
visitors center. Leaders:
Steve Oliveri, Jay Adams, Lionel
Quirion, and Michael
Smith. 10AM bird walk is for kids and is followed by kid
activities.
May 11 - 15 (Monday -

passage of songbirds in migration - all kinds of stuff including
warblers, sparrows, flycatchers, and lots more! No need for pre-contact, just show
up.

Arboretum,
Waterville - meet in the first big
parking lot you come to on the right as you come up Mayflower Hill
Drive from Waterville (not from the North Street entrance). Meet at the
southeast corner of the lot, closest to the southern entrance of the

Kennebec Land Trust - Parker
Pond trail. A new trip this year to a great KLT

Point Farm WMA, Dresden. Meet at the Gardiner Hannaford to

May 21 - Pine
Tree State Arboretum, Augusta -

May 22 - Evergreen
Cemetery, Capisic Park, Portland. Meet at Gardiner Hannaford to
carpool down, 6AM. Leader:

May 23 (Saturday). Monhegan
Island. It's the legendary Mohnegan Island, where anything and
everything can show up! One day tour from Port Clyde returning to
Port
Clyde around 5PM. Spring can produce trees dripping with migrants
or sitting on the beach too weak from migrating to fly. Leader: Jay Adams.
Note:
This trip will require advance registration as space on the Port Clyde
ferry will have to be confirmed. Contact Jay if you want to sign
up.
May
25-29. Kennebec area

June 6 (Saturday).
Rangeley/Oquossoc/Route 16.
We'll look for boreal breeding species such as Spruce Grouse, Boreal
Chickadee, Gray Jay, Blackburnian Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler,
Bay-breasted Warbler, Cape May Warbler, Black-backed Woodpecker,
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher. Leader:
Lionel Quirion. Meeting Place:
Augusta City Hall. Departure time: 5:30 a.m.
June 13-14 (Saturday/Sunday).
Aroostook County. We'll
go up north to see Presque Isle, Caribou and far northern Maine, and
join northern Maine bird expert Bill Sheehan on Sunday. Boreal
birds include Three-toed Woodpecker, breeding ducks, and boreal
warblers. Leader:
Michael Smith and Bill Sheehan. Meeting place:
Augusta City Hall, Saturday 6AM. We'll spend the night at a
reasonable motel up north. There will be fees associated with
this trip to cover costs.
July 25 (Saturday).
Hill's Beach, Biddeford.
Shorebirds galore! Godwits, peeps, and more! Leader:
Jay Adams. Meeting Place:
Citgo Station on Route 197 off the I-95 Richmond exit. Departure time:
TBA (tide-dependent).
August 22 (Saturday). Scarborough Marsh Bird Census
Help Maine Audubon
census the fabulous avifauna of Scarborough Marsh. Leader: Jay Adams.
Meeting Place: Hannaford parking lot, Gardiner. Departure time: 5:30AM.
August 23 (Sunday). Weskeag
Marsh, Thomaston Shorebirds
galore! Tringids, peeps, both Sharp-tailed Sparrows, and numerous
raptors. Leader: Mike Smith.
Meeting Place: Hannaford parking lot, Gardiner. Departure time: 11AM.
September 12 (Saturday). Cousin's Island. Fall passage of
warblers, vireos, flycatchers, and more! This can be a great spot
for southbound birds. Leader:
Al Haury. Meeting Place: Hannaford parking lot, Gardiner.
Departure time:
6:00 a.m.
September 26 (Saturday).
Monhegan Island. It's the
legendary Mohnegan Island, where anything and everything can show
up! One day tour from Port Clyde returning to Port Clyde around
5PM. Fall is typically when the oddities occur such as
Clay-colored Sparrow, Lark Sparrow, Western Kingbird, and who knows
what else. The 2006 fall trip got us the Virginia's Warbler! Leader:

October. Maine Audubon pelagic trip out of Bar
Harbor. The annual pelagic trip on the catamaran, we'll
ride down together. Leader:
Jay Adams. Date and location TBA once Maine Audubon
finalizes its schedule.
October 31
(Saturday - costumes optional!). Sabattus Pond.
Major
duckage! Thousands of Scaup and Ring-necked Ducks, even Scoters
and Long-tailed Ducks on this lake, as we see the peak passage of
waterfowl through our area. Leader:

December 19 (Saturday).
Augusta Christmas Bird Count.
Our annual count, contact Jay Adams to participate.
December 20 (Sunday).
Waterville Christmas Bird
Count. Annual count just to the north a bit, contact Herb
Wilson to participate.
