When finishing a painting, I often find that it has a sentimentality, or "a sense of place". Therefore, I consider my style "sentimental realism".

About the Artist

Tom Cox is from Eastern North Carolina.
As a youngster, he began to draw house plans from books.
He received art lessons in his teens, and at that time he
painted several oil seascapes and portraits.

While at the School of Design at NC State University,
he studied color theory, painting, drawing, aesthetics, and art theory.
His main influences include the French and American Impressionists.
After conferred his Architecture Degree in 1981, he worked as a Residential Designer.

Tom began to paint Watercolors in 1982 when he received lessons in Maine and began painting coastal scenes en plein aire. Now a full-time artist, he has developed an international patronage.
Virtually everything he has painted in the last several years has been purchased.

His compostions are mostly based on the Architecture and
Natural Environments of the U.S. East Coast from Maine to Florida.
