The
" Owl" nebula M97

located just outside the "bowl" of the big dipper and very near m108 is a star that has blown out a huge puff of gas in its dying stage producing the planetary nebula M97 ! Its distance from our sun is very difficult to determine but is estimated between 1500 to 8000 light years . This image is a LRGB composite of 6 four minute exposures taken with an 11" scope and MX7c ccd camera. Processing was done in AA 3.0 and guiding was done with Star 2000 interface . Some faint galaxies were visible around the area in the original raw images but processing to increase contrast has dimmed them considerably.
