Bow Ties

Bowties is a multilayered piece that can only be appreciated when you hold and move before it in real life. The dichroic patterns change in color and texture from different angles.

Bow Ties was inspired by interlocking tesselations - the intricate patterns and optical illusions made famous by Escher.

This piece has an underlying layer of mosaic green and blue fragments with the dichroic bow ties fused on a higher plane. The piece is heavy, and the layers give it depth.

When people look at this in a show we make sure they see it fom both front and back -- while light basses freely through this glass, the front is filled with vibrant bow tie patterns, but looked at from behind, the bowties are completely invisible - the platter is a brightly jumbled pattern of green and blue mosaic chips.
