Lava Flow

Hawaii was formed by molten lava bursting out of the Earth's very core. Lava Flow interprets a Hawaiian volcano in my medium of fused glass.

Lava Flow is based on a modern day Hawaiin quilt representing the birth of the island in a dramatic volcanic erruption. The design is done with a variety of colors of dichroic glass which all change color depending on the angle of light. The background glass is a cathedral gold with subtle iridescence. Lava Flow is a complex piece aimed at honoring both the Hawaiian quilting tradition as well as the very origins of the Hawaiin Islands.

16 inch.
