My Grandfather
My Grandfathers name was Harry
S. McGowan Sr. He was born in
Blackville, New Brunswick, Canada,
this is on the Miramichi just below
Chatham, New Brunswick. The Son
of James McGowan and Catherine Hogan.
My Grandfather, came to the United
States approximately in the year 1920,
my mother was born in 1921.
I also want to trace Catherine's Ancestry, which
so far has been very allusive.
The records show, Catherine the daughter of a
John Hogan, and Margaret Haws.
One record indicates that she was born in
McAdam, it is very possible she
was born in the Chatham, or Blackville area.
They moved to Stanley, and
then to Fredericton.

He is the father of James, and was born in Memramcook, just South of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. There are 3 stones, and 4 grave sites, Sarah is buried there with two of there children. Recent Developments: Daniel is buried in Memramcook at another cemetery, recently with a help from a few cousins on opposite corners (New Brunswick & Massachusetts) one on my grand-mothers side, we have come across important information concerning Daniel McGowan. He passed away in New Bedford, Massachusetts. This came about corresponding with my cousin
on my grandmothers side in New Brunswick, who talked to a lady at the church and found a record that revealed Daniel died in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1932. I had a cousin I was emailing a few yrs. ago and got out of touch, I figured I would try his email address. He did some research and found indeed Daniel did die in New Bedford. He found a complete obituary, and it stated 5 of his children settled in New Bedford. Not sure why it didn't list all his children. It also listed
a sister in Ontario.

In the McGowan Line I can trace back to Ireland, thru Michael McGowan. He came over around 1836, settling in Memramcook in New Brunswick Canada. He married a Catherine Doherty, who also was from Ireland. Michael was from all accounts from Donegal, and Catherine was from Ballyshannon. Michael
from accounts in the St. Joseph's Church registry, may have been very involved. The information that I have is they had 4 children, that were all born in Memramcook, New Brunswick Canada.![]()
They had, Edward, Frank, James (my great great grandfather), Maud
(she died at 9 months. old), Francis, Frederick, Henry, David and Ernest. In some of the Census reports, I believe they in some cases uses the middle names. Daniel also had other siblings, which I would love to connect with. One of there kids was a school teacher (John).HOME
