Today's picture of the day is a scanned photo of St. Luke's. Not sure when I took it. I'm guessing when we had driver
training in the church parking lot with the new Engine 1 a couple of years ago.
Yet another long busy weekend. SUPPOSED to be racing Friday night in Canaan, NH. The set gets erected for "Annie" Saturday.
There is going to be a coin drop for Habitat for Humanity on Main Street in Fairfax during the day Saturday. I was contacted
to see if I was interested in helping out. I have building coverage for Annie, but I may stop up. We'll see.
Sunday is Tech rehearsal for Annie. Long day there. Technically the museum opens Sunday afternoon.
Monday- July 4th. Big todo at school. Patriots football has set up bunch of things- craft fair, BBQ, bike parade, etc..
May stop over. We have our own shindig. Fireworks that night.
Tuesday- Taking the day off to rest. I hope.
Let the weekend begin...........
A couple more shots from Tuesday night training.
A dry hydrant is a hydrant that does not have pressurized water in it like a village or city hydrant. It is hooked up
to a water source- pond, brook, lake, etc- and water does not flow through it until a pump is hooked to it.
Took my own advice and bought a box of popsicles.
Mmmmmm......grape popsicles......mmmmmmmm.....
They sure melt fast in this weather.
This was an old fashioned Social. We haven't had one like this in a while.
The weather was great. No threat of rain. A bit on the warm side, and the sun was rather strong. People who got
there early gravitated towards the shade.
We started serving pie just before the band played at 7pm and the line was constant and long. Emily Wills did a quick
headcount and figured around 200 people. I went around at 7:45 and passed the hat for the band, and when I got done, five
to seven minutes later, there was no line at the table for the first time. Henry Raymond couldn't get over how he was so busy
for so long. And he was just pouring ice tea and lemonade.
So many Thank Yous to hand out:
Thank you to Rev. Griffin and the United Church for letting us use the front lawn of the Baptist Building for the Social.
Vermont picture perfect.
Thank you to Wayne and Sally Sweet for putting up the sign out in front of the church and for trusting me with the key
to the place.
Thank you to The Hodet Family- Tim, Diana, Brad and Eric, for helping set up. Great to see you, Tim. Good luck.
Thank you to Elaine Kirkpatrick for being the cashier. She had her hands full. She forgot the calculator. Good thing
she used to be a math teacher.
Thank you to Henry Raymond for pouring drinks all evening. I don't think he got away to take any pictures.
Thank you to Al Daniels for scooping ice cream, and helping set up and tear down.
Thank you to the pie servers- Bob and Kathy Bessette, and my sister Margie. You guys had your work cut out for you. I
think we had 41 pies. You had them sorted and even told people who made what pie.
And you guys were in the sun all evening.
Thank you to everyone who made pies. Bless you all. They're all homemade. And delicious. Blueberry, cherry, strawberry,
chocholate, strawberry-rhubarb, peach, apple, maple.....a wide variety of choices. When soliciting pies, I simply suggest
making a pie that would go good with ice cream. They all do.
Thank you to Sally Billado and Pauline Lavallee for running the T-shirt table.
Thank you to Jeff Minor and Minor's Country Store for being the place to get the ice cream.
Thank you very much to Cathy Gottschalk and the Fairfax-Fletcher-Westford Band. You guys sounded great. Especially in
front of the church. The music bounces off the building and fills the village.
Thank you to Doug Webb for letting me use his hat to "pass the hat" for the band.
Thank you to EVERYONE who came. There were friends, family and new people who happened to stop by. There were even some
people from Florida on vacation who stopped in once before and made it a point to come back. Some visitors had only been in
town two hours.
Thank you to Toni Stone for being such a great supporter of the Fairfax Historical Society.
To anyone I may have missed, I am truly sorry. I was running around making sure things were going smoothly and may have
missed someone helping out or contributing to our evening.
Have a great summer everyone.
