TOWN MEETING TWO
Posted for Sunday March 6th..........
Looooong day........
and NOBODY SAID ANYTHING ABOUT ALL THIS SNOW!!!!!!
I had 15 and 1/2 inches before I had to go over to school. The bottom of Main Hill had 19 inches.
I spent eight and a half hours over at school doing building coverage for Town Meeting. Then came home and shoveled the
driveway. Man, am I tired.
No bathrooms on the rec fields. No basketball court, either.
No more town auditors. I still have no idea what THAT was all about.
I'm taking some Tylenol and crawling into bed.
Margie is watching Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Rather interesting filmmaking. Actors spent most of the time
on a greenscreen set and then film was transposed onto animation. It's pretty good. I will catch it again some other time.

TOWN MEETING
A post on the correct day........
The waves that coated one part of the path with ice, really tossed some debris onto other parts. It's gotta be some strong
waves to throw rocks onto shore.
Saturday is Town Meeting. I've been going to Town Meeting since I was a senior in high school. It's been interesting.
I remember the squabbles about divying up the money from revenue sharing. The school portion is basically an informational
meeting on what the ballot items are. The town portion will be long and drawn out. Do we increase coverage by the sheriff?
Do we build a basketball court for the rec fields? Do we have fireworks on the 4th of July? These get fought over today. Not
sure about the turnout. We'll see.

ODDS 'N' ENDS
Posted for Friday March 3rd.........
You can see the bars on the railings through the ice on the right. That runs along the lake on the bike path. The
chain link fence on the left separates the path from the railroad tracks. Both were caked with ice. The waves must have been
crashing up onto them and then the water would freeze. The ice was really thick.
Watched "Mallrats". What a wacky movie. Not what I thought it was going to be. Thought it was vignettes about groups
of people that hung out at the mall and their interaction with each other. Wrong. It was about two guys and the troubles with
their respective girlfriends. It mostly took place at the mall.
I watched the extended version with about 30 minutes added. It wasn't bad. Typical Kevin Smith writing and dialogue.
Now I need to see "Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back" to finish the Kevin Smith library.
I will do a March page Friday night. Or over the weekend.

BRRRRR-LINGTON
Posted for Thursday March 2nd........
I took the day off from work and spent the day down in Burlington. Bought some CDs and some clothes from Finish Line.
Bought "Mallrats", Kevin Smith's second movie.
Man, that wind blows right through you. I think I got kinda chilled today.
I went down onto the bike path down by the lake. Tomorrow's Picture of the Day will be interesting. Lots of ice.
Anyone who seees me out and about knows I wear a black cap that says "Clerks." on it. It's from Kevin Smith's first movie
of the same name. Two people complimented me on it. One guy wanted to know where I got it. According to him, Smith is thinking
of doing a sequel to it, updating what has happened to the clerks ten years later.
A while back, Pepsi-Cola company was doing a promotion with Microsoft, where they were giving out a new XBOX video
game system every ten minutes. You buy a Pepsi or Mountain Dew product, and register the code under the cap online. If you
registered a certain amount of codes, you could redeem them for merchandise. I registered enough to get this cool slingbag
that has Mountain Dew and XBOX logos on them. Normally I use a backpack when I go to Burlington, but today I used the slingbag.
Nice. It even comes with a little holder for your iPod and is velcroed to the strap. I do not have an iPod. Neat little
thing, though.
More pics from Burlington this week.

MARCH!
Posted for Wednesday March 1st.......
Town Meeting Day is usually a good first sign of spring. Sometimes it's not.
I have seen Town Meeting Days in the 30's, with snow melting and water starting to trickle down the sides of the roads.
In 1979, the year that Town Meeting was held on a Monday night, the Lamoille River was up and overflowing it's banks.
Then again, I've seen two feet of snow fall on Town Meeting Day.
You just never know.
March is a season all it's own. The Blizzard of '93(?) happened in March. You might start seeing robins in March.
Here's something to think about.......there is a 360 sprint car race at Afton Speedway in NY on April 22. Not sure if
we're going or not, but I think I can say.......the racing season starts.......NEXT MONTH!!!!

WINTER'S A LITTLE LATE THIS YEAR
Posted for Tuesday February 28........
I shouldn't knock this, but I enjoyed the 30+ degree days with no snow on the ground. Didn't have to trudge through the
snow to take the dog for a walk. Believe me, things can be a lot worse. It feels cold outside now at eight degrees, I'd
hate to think how cold it would feel at -28.
We have been lucky so far-KNOCK ON WOOD!-. I guessing we will get a dumping at some point in March. We haven't had a
good 12+ incher this year. Although, we did miss the Blizzard that hit south of here.
Stay warm. Winter is almost over. March can be a season all it's own, sometimes.

THE FLAGS COME DOWN...........
Posted for Monday February 27.............
......and just like that, the Winter Olympics are over.......
Vancouver, here we come. By way of Beijing in a couple of years for the summer games.
I was working and didn't see the Opening Ceremonies. I did see the closing and that was grand. As far as watching the
games themselves, I saw some hockey and a lot of curling. The primetime stuff, again I was at work. I usually knew who won
ahead of time anyway, thanks to the internet.
I wanted a nice picture to go along with this, and at the last minute, I got a good one. The flags coming down and heading
back to the house. I put them up two weeks ago around the time of the Opening Ceremonies and they've stayed up the whole fortnight.
My many thanks to my sister Margie for being such a trooper and going out TWICE in the near-zero-degree windy night so
I could get the shot.
No school this week, so I will be posting early, so I can get to bed early, because the alarm goes off at 5:45am.

THE PINES SPEEDWAY
Talk about your small town, out in the middle of nowhere racetrack....
Back in 2002, Anthony's first year with the 360 sprints, we ran a few times over at The Pines Speedway in Rumney, NH.
It was, maybe, a 1/3rd mile dirt track. Not a lot of people in the stands. More people in the pits. There was a hill off of
turn one where pit crews would sit. It was great to stand up there and take pictures or video of the race. The purse was never
great. But it gave Anthony much needed seat time.
The first time there, Anthony asked Mark Cole how to drive the track. Mark explained the best ways to get into the corners
and such. Anthony then proceded to go out and beat Mark in the heat race. Afterwards, Anthony went over to Mark and asked,
"What do you think?". Mark replied, "I don't think I'm going to tell you anything anymore." I believe Mark went on to beat
Anthony in the feature.
The local American Legion owns the land and just recently took over the speedway and will run things themselves. First
up, they changed the name to Legion Speedway. There is talk of running a couple of sprint races there. We'll see what happens.
