THE UNTHINKABLE...MY $0.02
I don't have the cents symbol on my keyboard and I'm not smart enough to make one up.
The idea of a leading car manufacturer leaving NASCAR is not so far-fetched. The Big Three used to have a slogan-"Win
on Sunday, sell on Monday". That hasn't been working in a while. It used to work when that was all you had to choose from.
Now you can choose from Ford Dodge, Chevy, Subaru, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Kia, Saturn, Toyota, Honda, Hundya...Hynday....Hun-something,
and even Hummer.
Even so, the cars of NASCAR look nothing like the street car that the racecar is modeled after. You watch highlights
of old races and you can tell what brand of cars are what, because that's what they were-street cars stripped down and rebuilt
into racecars. If you ran a 1972 Chevy Nova, and you got dinged up at the races, you went to the local junkyard and found
another Nova for usable parts.
Now, you buy body panels from a distributer that handles NASCAR spec parts.
Next year will be the unveiling of NASCAR's Car Of Tomorrow, in which just about every car will look alike. The only
difference being the name of the car on the front bumper.
Why pay NASCAR teams wheelbarrows of money to run a Dodge, when it will look like a Ford or Chevy.
It will be interesting to see how this will play out.

THE UNTHINKABLE
Posted for Friday April 21st........
No school Friday so I am on days. Thus a early post. Early posting means early bedtime.
Today's picture is from one of the Belvedere Old Home Days' parade from the early 90's. We used to go up because Margie
was in the town band and they always played up there.
I found this off of Jayski's website.
There is a rumor that one of the big manufacturers-Ford, Dodge, Chevy- is seriously thinking of pulling out of NASCAR.
Check this out:
If you follow NASCAR and you see what is going on, it would make sense for this to happen.

MUSEUM OPEN
I am looking for an old picture of St. Luke's/Steeple Market, with the view like the one I had yesterday. I thought Mom
had one. Couldn't find it. Will keep looking.
The Fairfax Historical Society Museum is open for the season. We do not have regular hours until July, but right now,
we are open by appointment.
If your class, or scout troop(girl or boy), or you have friends or family visiting and would like to see the museum,
give me a call or e-mail me.
Had some cub scouts in on Monday. It went very well. I got the card and goodie, guys. Thanks!
We have the barn and toys made by Ernest Tinker that are amazing.
Lots of items on display. I can also do a presentation if you like.
June 25th. Pie and Ice cream social. 7pm. Front lawn of the Baptist Building. Concert by the Fairfax-Fletcher-Westford
Band.

REVERSE ANGLE 2
Again, this view is from River Road. Actually it's down off the road aways, but from that angle.
Notice the thing sticking up on the hill to the right of the steeple. That is the Verizon/Unicel tower. That is the reason
we have cell phone service in Fairfax.
A Cub Scout troop was visiting the museum on Monday. I showed them a Radio Shack catalog from 1989. A
cell phone cost $1500, and you probably couldn't use it here in town. It also was the size of a brick.
I showed them mine, which is a basic model. I told them that a couple of years ago, I was telling some students that
eventually, your phone will be a combination Palm Pilot and cell phone. That's already here.
Your phone is now connected to the internet, an MP3 player, a camera, a Blackberry e-mailing/text-messaging system, and
get video clips. You can also call someone and talk to them, too.
It makes you wonder what else they will do.
Didn't I talk about this once before? Can I get in trouble for plagurizing myself? I gotta start printing out these
blogs, so I have a quick reference.

REVERSE ANGLE
I'm always taking a picture of the Lamoille River bridge from the west side. Took a picture from the east side.
I'm hoping to get a bicycle soon and head out and about. I will take the camera with me. I need the exercise. Yes, I
walk everywhere, but my body is used to it. I need to do more to get into shape.
Yet another late night, so I will bid you adieu until tomorrow.

HOOFIN' IT
Posted for Monday April 17th..........
I did a bunch of walking today. I went up to the museum to get it ready for a Cub Scout troop that willl be visiting
Monday afternoon. I went down River Road a little ways to get a couple of pictures of things from a different angle. I went
over in back of school to see all the excavation work being done beyond the baseball field upclose.
Then this evening I went for a walk towards the woods down in back of the school. I got to the end of the road where
the cornfield is, and ventured down next to the river.
The tall grass and stuff is all flattened, and it looked like there was a makeshift path, so I headed down through along
the river.
Mind you I left the house around 6:20pm.
I ended up down by the rapids. I haven't taken a walk down there in a good 15 years. I used to go along a path through
some brush and then up a hill onto a plateau, then a short stroll through some more woods, then down a steep embankment, practically
a cliff, to get to the rapids. This time I stayed next to the river.
I took some pictures, and then headed back, getting home shortly before 8pm.
To give you some ideas where it is:
a) If you go to the end of Hunt Street, you end up by Lamoille Street, where there are some houses. You can hear the
rapids from there.
b) As you go down into the dip past Nan's Mobil, and you get to the flat part of the stretch; as the crow flies, it would
be over on your left, over the meadow and through the woods.
No grandmother's house, though.
Not yet, anyway.
I figure to sleep pretty good tonight. I'm hoping to.
