YEAH!!!!!
What a thing of beauty.
Anthony passed George Ely coming out of turn four for the sixth and final transfer spot to the A-Main in the first heat.
Anthony had started ninth and passsed one car. Another hit the wall and dropped out. Then with two laps to go, there was a
caution. That set up a two lap dash with Anthony in seventh. I was standing whre you would come out of turn four(the
pits are in the infield), and saw him make the pass on the outside. Ely was sent to the B-Main, which he won.
Anthony started 16th in the A-Main, and basically stayed in that general vicinity. He would move up a couple of spots,
then get passed. The track gets so hard and smooth from all the rubber laid down, that turns three and four looks like pavement.
Surface becomes very slick as well.
Anthony hung in there, and finished 17th in the 24 car, 25 lap race. All cars running finished on the lead lap.
A very satisfied bunch of guys we were. I'm really proud of Anthony. He did great. He had a lot of fun out there.
Checked the weather for Drummondville. Cloudy Saturday night with rain developing overnight.
Keep your fingers crossed.

FUZZY PHOTO
I got up Wednesday morning, went to take recycling out, but grabbed my camera instead and went out onto our street. I
heard a bus coming down the hill, so I waited, aimed, and caught a shot of the bus bringing kids to school on the first day.
I was back aways, so I edited it to get a close-up, and thought it was pretty good.
Downloaded it onto the computer and goofed up a little. Should have gone with a higher resolution, initially, then
the close-up would have been clearer.
Thus, the picture of the bus was not the Picture of the Day.
I shall remember this next time.

FIRE DEPARTMENT ITEMS
Posted for Wednesday August 30th.................
Thanks to Fairfax Auto on River Road for letting the Fairfax Fire Department use a couple of vehicles for Extracation
Training Tuesday night. I think that is what it's called now. It used to be Fairfax Salvage, but I thought the sign now says
Fairfax Auto. In any case, THANKS!!!
There will be a Remembrance, Monday night, September 11th in Taylor Park in St. Albans at 7pm. We will be marking the
five year anniversary of the terrorist attacks of that fateful day in 2001. The Fairfax Fire Dept. will be sending a truck
out. I may try to take the day off to go. There was a ceremony one year after 9/11 that I went to. I had committed myself
to going when I found out something was being done here in town. I was able to still go out and represent the department that
night. Very nice ceremony. Kinda why I want to go again.

KICKING AND SCREAMING
Posted for Tuesday August 29th...............
Normally at some point during the summer, I stop and look around and capture a moment to remember, so that when the day
before school starts, I can say, "I wish it was such-and-such-a-date-again."
For a stretch I would do it coming home from the museum on the Fourth of July. I used to open the museum up on the 4th,
but lately, I have had other things going on. This year is was building coverage for the Community Theatre.
This year I didn't do that.
It was so busy, I never took the time.
There was the Pie and Ice Cream Social. Then the play. Then getting ready for the State Convention. Getting the school
ready was a major undertaking.
For the most part, it was a good summer.
Was.
Still some good weather left. Races to go to.
You never know what will happen next.
I've found out, that whatever does happen next, almost always surprises us.

THE END OF SUMMER
Posted for Monday August 28th.............
Margie said Sunday felt like October. Maybe we'll get August weather in October.
Today was a good day to stay in bed. I didn't. Watched the Formula One race this morning. Hosted the museum this afternoon.
Did some research while I was there.
I'm trying to find where some mineral springs were located in town. I seem to remember reading somewhere something about
them. Not sure if they are around anymore. Story was there was one down in the woods behind the school.
Another mystery I'm working on is a photo I came across while cleaning the trophy cases at school. A BFA boys basketball
team picture with the words "State Champs-1937" written on the basketball.
Hmmmm....
Check the programs from the State Tournements down in Barre from when WE were in the playoffs in the 70's. The listing
of State Champions go back to 1938. That was supposedly the first year of the tournements as we now know them. I do recognize
a couple of people in the picture, so I need to make some phone calls.
Full inservice at school Monday. Fairfax, Fletcher, and Georgia will all be there.
Last two days of summer.

WE WENT TO THE FAIR!!!
Margie and I went to the Champlain Valley Fair Saturday afternoon.
It was rather interesting to drive by the Essex Elementary School. Caution tape is still up, blocking the driveway. The
chainlink fence that surrounds the playground area has flowers stuck in it here and there. As we went a little further, a
mother and two children were walking to the school. The mother was carrying flowers, and the kids each had a balloon on a
stick.
THOUGHT about trying to snap a picture of the fence, but KNEW it would be inappropriate. I'm not the media, and
to take a picture then post it here might be exploiting things a bit.
Spent about three hours at the fair. Took some pictures which I will post in the coming days. Didn't spend a lot of money.
Not as many vendors. The Vermont Ware Building was empty. Won a stuffed tiger at a racing game. Aim at a target, water comes
out the nozzle, hit the moving bullseye, and your car moves. Played two games, won the second one.
Menu included cheeseburger, Al's French Fries, maple frosted donut, apple crisp, and mozzerella sticks. I was full.
I will be at the Museum Sunday from 2-4. Last Sunday of the summer.
