NEEDED: NEW PICTURES
Ok, I need to take some new and interesting pictures. Probably of Fairfax.
They have taken the black plastic down that lined the rec path, so I will go down and get some shots.
Busy day around town Saturday. Folkids have a rummage sale/Flea Market in the old gym at school. St. Luke's have their
annual Rummage Sale at the church. And to top it all off is the Bean Hole Supper at the Baptist Building.
Check out:
for all the details.
It's late. Time for bed.

CANADIAN SPRINTERS
There are more Canadian drivers getting involved with ESS. Actually, that's not quite right. There are more QUEBEC drivers
getting involved with ESS. There's plenty of Canadian drivers involved with the Southern Ontario Sprints. But now the Que.
drivers are coming out. #8B, Alain Bergeron was one of the first. Anthony used to race against Alain up at Drummondville in
the mini-sprints back in 1999. Steve Poirier used to run Modifieds at Granby and Drummond. Michael Parent used to race ATVs.
They are having success. Bergeron is point leader with the ESS. Poirier is the leading rookie. Parent is still very new
but has recorded a couple of top 15 finishes.
Saw Parent take a flop at Granby in warm-ups. #F1 Nick Fratto spun in turn 4, and Parent saw him too late and clipped
the front of Fratto and flopped on his side. Both made repairs and ran the rest of the evening.

"SNAKES......" POSTSCRIPT
A postscript to yesterday's blog.......
As we were in line to go through the border into Canada on Friday, there was a truck and small trailer in another line.
The sign on the trailer read, "Snake Farmers of America". Underneath was, "Live Venomous Snakes".
Last we saw of him, he was parked off to the side, and had gone into the customs building.
THAT had to have been an interesting conversation. I'm sure he had papers and they were all in order, but "WHY are you
coming into Canada?". You KNOW they had to inspect the trailer. Must have drawn straws to see who would do it.
Hope no one had seen "Snakes on a Plane" just recently.
I'm sure they've seen just about everything.
Person in the booth had the easy job-"Uh, yeah...Why don't you park over there and go inside and talk to someone in there.".

SNAKES ON A PLANE-THE MUSIC
No, not a musical. There's a song out there being played that is really good.
"Snakes On A Plane" is a movie I'm sure you've heard about. The title says it all. There was such a hype about it, but
the box office was not that great. Everyone's probably waiting for it to come out on DVD, which should happen soon.
From the movie is a song that I first heard on Sirius Satellite radio, and have now seen the video.
Cobra Starship is the name of the band, and the song is called "Snakes On A Plane(Bring It)".
You can listen to the song and watch the video at:
Word to the wise: If you are at work, you might want to turn the speakers down for the first 14 seconds.
Samuel L. Jackson delivers his famous quote from the movie, destined to be the 2006 Pop Culture Quote of the Year.
Cobra Starship is a side project of Gabe Saporta, lead singer for a band called Midtown. They had a hit back in 2004,
called "Give It Up".
I would see the video on Fuse, and ended up buying the CD.
Great song. Dynamite video. A guy finds a duffel bag, and what happens next....
Check out the video at:
If you watch the video for "Snakes...", it features Gabe the lead singer, William Beckett of the group, "The Academy
Is....", Travis McCoy of the group "Gym Class Heros", a hip-hop group that uses live instruments, and the blonde is Maja Ivarsson
of the Swedish band, "The Sounds". I got introduced to The Sounds on MTV2. They played their video, "Living in America".
Great song. Bought the CD. Fantastic CD.

FLAGS AND POWER LINES
..........do not go together very well.
They just happen to be the topic for today.
Yesterday I showed you how Luke Eriksen shows some state pride by flying the flag of the Green Mountain Boys.
Since we first started with the sprints, we always fly the American flag on the trailer at races at Canaan, Bear Ridge,
and Pines-now Legion Speedway. Whenever we run ESS, we fly both American and Canadian flags because of drivers from both countries
competing.
It especially looks nice when we run Granby and Drummond. Dean Reynolds, PR guy for ESS, always takes a picture of the
flags when we race in Canada, and posts it on the ESS site.
The large towers are a common site in Canada. A line goes along in back of Autodrome Granby, and runs parallel along
the pit road entrance to the track. We always arrive before the gates open. We get out and walk around and start chatting
with all the other teams that are waiting to go in. There is a constant buzzing in the air as you can hear the electricity
going through the lines.
Back during the Ice Storm of 1998, many of these towers collapsed or toppled over with the weight of the ice, building
up on the wires.
I didn't get a picture of it, but as we were heading to Drummondville on Saturday, I noticed how flat that area of Quebec
is. What's interesting is, it is flat over a large area, then in the middle of it all is a clump of tall hills. It's like
someone dumped a a bunch of dirt in piles, and said, "Here you go-Mountains."
Here are these hills out in the middle of all this flat land. No rolling hills like Vermont. Just flat land with these
giant hills in the middle of it all.
I'm sure there's a geological answer for it all.

MORE FROM AUTODROME DRUMMOND
I got the September page up.
They put on quite a show at Drummondville.
They parade the cars individually in front of the grandstands for driver introductions. They set off fireworks as the
cars are being pushed off.
Then during the four-wide-parade lap, they set off a steady stream of sparks from both sides of the track at the start/finish
line.
Very impressive.
Was wishing Anthony was in the field.
Next year.
Luke Eriksen hails from Manchester, VT and is a student at Champlain College. He flies the flag of the Green Mountain
Boys on the trailer. We always fly the American and Canadian flags. Luke flopped it during the A-Main at Granby Friday night.
He used Anthony's spare wing at Drummond Saturday night.
Doppler radar lies. Checked three weather sites. 12:43am and it's been raining. Radar shows no rain. Shows rain in Maine,
but we're not in Maine. Don't think so, anyway. I'll have to check to see if we got traded or something. You'd have thought
they would've told us, though. That will make longer trips to the races. Not to mention longer commutes to work for most people.
Time for bed. I'm getting silly.

DRUMMONDVILLE
No last lap heroics this time. Anthony finished 5th in the B-Main and did not qualify for the feature.
Weather was great. Cloudy but no rain. They actually let the sprints run their feature before the modifieds. We got home
earlier from Drummond than Granby. Granby, your locked in the infield until the races are done.
Doppler radar has it raining just south of here at 2:10am.
Lots of racing related pictures in the days to come.
Unless something else happens.
