BITS AND PIECES
Success By Six Open House at the Fairfax Fire Station Saturday morning from 10am-12pm. I'll be there.
I'll probably stop in at the rummage sale at the Baptist Building on the way home.
Doctor Who was great fun Friday night. It featured an old companion of the Doctor's-Sarah Jane Smith. She was around
in the Jon Pertwee/ Tom Baker years. Really great show. A blast from the past.
I'll be catching The Fantasticks over in Westford Sunday afternoon.
Nextel Cup race at Charlotte, NC aka Lowe's Motor Speedway Saturday night. Any bets that Brian Vickers ends up "accidently"
in the wall? I'm picking Matt Kenseth to win.
Such sadness out of Burlington. They found the body of the missing girl. Sigh. And a gentle shake of the head.

FCTC PRESENTS THE FANTASTICKS
Sorry! I should have posted this sooner!
The Fairfax Community Theatre Company is pleased to
present one of the longest running musicals,
"The Fantasticks".
This well known show tells the story of how Matt
(
Pat Fitzgerald) and Luisa (
Hillary Loggins)
go from
naive young love to a more realistic, but longer
lasting, love.
Their respective parents Hucklebee (
San
Harrington)
and Bellamy (
Walt Mahany) work to get their children
together, with unforeseen
consequences.
The mysterious stranger El Gallo (
Bob Martin) is
integral to the plan, and is aided by
weathered actor
Henry (
Peter Harrington) and perpetually
dyingMortimer (
Jen Martin).
Throughout
it all The Mute (
Lisa Steele) watches
and works to set events into motion.
The Fantasticks
is directed by FCTC member
Jerry Starks, who notes that this is a musical
he has wanted to direct for
some time.
He notes that while the sets and props are minimal,
the magic of the show is created by the rich
characters,
the music, and the performance of
the actors.
Veteran FCTC member
Margie Cain is the
music director, with
a large number of FCTC
members in other production roles.
Show dates and times are October 11th - 14th
at
7:30 PM, and October 15th at 2:00 PM.
All performances will be at the newly renovated
Brick Meeting House on
Route 128 in Westford,
Vermont.
Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $7.50 for
children and seniors.
For box office
hours or information call 849-2923,
email
fctc_vt@yahoo.com, or

Partial proceeds from the show to benefit the BMH.

A LOT OF SPAM
I've been getting some spam mail lately.
Most of it is people claiming to be with some troubled African country and have money squirreled away and need to unload
it. I say, Get it all in cash, and then throw it out a window of a tall building and give it away to the people. Don't think
they'll take my suggestion, because I don't think there really is any money in some bank account.
I do not open these e-mails. I go in through the back door. I kinda have to check almost all of them. Some sound friendly.
I checked one and it was someone from out-of-state complimenting me on my website. It looked like spam, but it was a real
letter. Glad I didn't delete it.
Some of it looks like abunch of words just thrown together. Others look like someone writing a short story. Often wonder
if some are secret codes for something. Like some CIA or FBI thing where you circle every fifth word and there is a warning
about some possible terrrorist attack. Or someone warning us that they are planning an attack and this way, they can
say, "Hey, I sent e-mails to everyone saying I was going to do this!".
Or maybe I'm just tired and it's time to go to bed.

WATERCOLORS
I've been meaning to run this picture for a couple of days now, but other things came up. Nice reflection of the colors
in the water.
Thanks to everyone who stops in to see my site and the pictures. A couple of people have taken a picture and used it
as wallpaper on their computer at work. That's great! Thanks! Glad I brighten someone's day now and then.
Thanks to Henry Raymond and Chris Santee for telling people about my site.
Article in Tuesday's Messenger has "experts" predicting a mild winter for much of the US. Right. That's usually the kiss
of death. I won't get my hopes up. I'll just take it one day at a time.

BUSY MONDAY
Posted for Tuesday October 10th..............
Thanks to Sharon Horr for taking the pictures Monday morning at the library.
Storyhour went very well. I read two books. Then I talked about my fire gear and Patricia Hendee graciously volunteered
to put my gear on. She noticed that the gear is very heavy. She got an idea of what we go through at calls. We kinda forget
about the weight of the gear. We're just grateful to have it on.
Some songs were sung and the kids learned about "Stop, Drop, and Roll". Then it was time to do some coloring.
There is an Open House for Success by Six families Saturday morning at the fire station from 10am to noon. Fire, Rescue,
Sheriff will be there.
Monday morning was fun. I enjoyed it very much. Thanks to the Fairfax Community Library, Success by Six, Fire Chief Dean
Potter for asking me if I was willing to read to the kids, and Patricia for trying my gear on.
I gave a pint of blood Monday afternoon at the blood drive at school.
I don't have any problems giving blood. Some students were giving blood for the first time and a few were having issues
with dizziness and not feeling well. That always happens. Kudos to the National Honor Society at school for having the drive.
It's always a big success.

BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND
Posted for Monday October 9th..............
Six people visited the museum Sunday. We are still open, by at this point it probably will be by appointment only. Unless
the weather is fantastic again next Sunday, I doubt we will have a general opening.
Got some pictures around the village. Have a nice one planned for tomorrow.
What a wild finish at Talladega. Brian Vickers was running third, taps 2nd place Jimmie Johnson's bumper, who gets out
of shape and takes out leader Dale Earnhardt, Jr., along with himself, and Vickers goes on to win.
Busy day Monday. I am reading to pre-school kids on behalf of the Fire Department as part of a Success By Six program.
That is at 10am in the library. Then I took the day off from work to give blood at the blood drive at school. I think that's
from noon or 1pm to 6pm.
I'll let you know how everything went.

APPLEFEST WEEKEND
Margie wanted to do something fun Saturday and figured we could take Rex over to the Islands, and get some stuff and
have lunch out.
Just a leisurely drive.
Yeah.
There is something called Applefest, and it's usually the first weekend in October. It was this year. They had great
weather for it and the people came out in droves.
We were able to get a parking spot at the Apple Farm Market. There was hardly a line at the snack place and the crowd
in the store was moderate. The Applefest is over in back of the place somewhere and cars were parked both sides of Route 2,
and any available parking lot.
We had some lunch, and then got an apple pie and some cinnamon donuts. The apple pie was frozen and we baked it here.
Man, is that good. Donuts are yummy, too.
As you can see, I took the camera along and will be posting some pictures over the next few days.
Getting back to yesterday's blog.....
I hope you laughed. If you were offended over what I wrote, I apologize.
Back when I was a kid, I was not up-to-date on world events. I really don't remember that much about Vietnam until the
war was almost over.
The assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. really upset me. We never really heard about someone shooting and murdering
someone else. This was something new to me. I wondered if someone was going to try to shoot me. By the time I had gotten over
it, Bobby Kennedy was shot. Freaking out happened all over again. If the parents are upset about something like this, it trickles
down to the kids. It did to me, anyway.
I meant what I said about who I went to school with. There were kids who would have revered in adding to the chaos.
Case in point.
True story. When I got up one morning, Mom showed me that morning's copy of the Burlington Free Press. A twelve year
old girl had given birth to a baby girl. There was a picture of the girl, her mother, and the new baby. Twelve. 1. 2. 12.
Things like that didn't happen back in those days. A while later I was in school and someone mentioned it to the teacher.
Classmate: "Did you see about that twelve year old girl having a baby?"
Teacher: "Yes, I did! Isn't that something?"
Another classmate: "If she wants another one, she can come right here!!" as he pounds the top of his desk with his fist.
Teacher: Scowls.
Oh, yeah. Today's world events happening back then.
Classmate: "Why can't I go see who's out there?"
Teacher: "SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP!!"
Another classmate: "Are you sure you didn't hear that gunshot?"
Teacher: "NO! NOW STOP IT!"
That would happen. I know it.
I will be at the museum from 2-4 Sunday.
