RACE DAY, ROAD TRIP, AND MORE
Posted for Sunday May 27th............................

And away we go......literally.
We're heading out at 7am for Vernon, NY, home of the Utica-Rome Speedway for the season opener for the Empire Super Sprints. Man, I hope the weather cooperates.

Margie and I went to Essex and Williston Saturday. I was able to get some shots of the Veterans' Memorial at Five Corners, and pictures of the building that caught fire on Railroad Street in Essex. Thanks, Margie!

A victory of sorts. Did my normal Saturday morning errands-walking up to Minor's Country Store and back, stopping here and there, for the first time in over a month. Knee was tired but not dragging. I even mowed some lawn before I ran out of gas. I guess it's getting better.
Yahoo-oo!!

Picks for Sunday. Fernando Alonzo has the pole in Monaco, and will repeat his 2006 victory there.
The Indy 500 can be an absolute crapshoot some years and I am not coming up with a sure winner on this one. I'll go with Helio Castroneves, but it is possibe there might be a first time winner.
The Coke 600. I really don't want to see a Hendrick car to win, but Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson do well here. I'm going to go with Denny Hamlin because he's due.
And I won't get to watch a single one. As long as we get to race, fine by me.

MYSPACE MUSIC
Like a song you hear on the radio? Or a video that you saw? Go to www.MySpace.com and search for that artist. Most artists nowadays have a page on MySpace.

I need to get some new music and there's some pretty good stuff out there at the moment.

Pink put out a CD last year called "I'm Not Dead!". Her newest single from it, is really good, and starts playing when you go to her page.
It's called "U and Ur Hand", and ummmmm...........it's kind of a single girl-tired-of-creepy-guys-in-bars anthem. Females will find it a riot. Some may relate to it. Warning-Parental Lyrics.

The first "American Idol" Kelly Clarkson is back with a really good song, "Never Again". Not as rock-y as Pink, but beyond pop ala Britney and Christina.

If garage bands are your thing, there's a new band out of Glasgow, Scotland called The Fratellis. "Flathead" is the first single. Kinda 60's/70's stuff. I plan on getting the album. Three guys. Guitar, bass, drums.

Speaking of three guys, another British band, Muse, packs a lot of punch for a trio. Lots of overdubbing, very orchestral. Listen to "Knights of Cydonia".

STAR WARS FANS REJOICE!!!
Oh, to be in LA.
The Star Wars Celebration is happening in Los Angeles this weekend to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original Star Wars. They are going to show all six movies back to back in order. Other things will be happening as well.
As for me, I will be going to the Post Office Friday to get the new Star Wars stamps. One sheet to keep, one to use.
Mmmm....need to dig out my Darth Vader shirt.........

PANIC!!!
Posted for Thursday May 24th.........................

I suddenly realized that I had not been out with my camera in the past couple of days and might not have a fresh picture for Thursday. But I thought about it and remembered a shot of Mill Brook that I took when I was down by the bridge the day I was taking pictures of the new paint job on the foundation. It works.

Big tripleheader Sunday on TV. Formula 1 is in Monaco. The Indy 500. Then the Coke 600. I'm hoping to be in New York. 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms. I will take a look into my crystal ball and see who will win. I'll make my predictions Saturday.

20th ANNUAL PIE AND ICE CREAM SOCIAL
Posted for Wednesday May 23rd................................

We're about a month away from the 20th Annual Pie and Ice Cream Social. Sunday night, June 24th at 7pm on the front lawn of the Baptist Building on Main Street. Concert by the Fairfax-Fletcher-Westford Band.
Hard to believe it's been twenty years. Mom was the brains behind this thing. She had it all planned out. About 5pm the day of the social we had a downpour. A quick one, but then the sun came out and the people did, too. Just a simple, old-fashioned evening of some pie and ice cream, while listening to the band.
I need to start thinking about publicity and posters.

With everything going on with my knee and Henry has been busy with IBM's 50th anniversary, we have been stuck on what to do for our May/June meeting.
At this point, we're going to pass on the meeting and concentrate on the Social.
I had wanted to do something special to mark the 20th Social, but I haven't come up with anything. I guess if we have nice weather and a good crowd, that will be special enough.

WRITER'S BLOCK
Sunday night I sat in front of the computer and literally had my head in my hands. What do I write about? Nothing came out.
Some days, I will sit down, and not really plan anything, but my mind latches onto a subject, and suddenly I have this great essay that came out of nowhere.
What was funny, was that Henry Raymond was going through the same thing Monday morning.
Must be the planets were not properly aligned.

I am looking forward to this weekend. Yes, it is Memorial Day, but we might be racing at a new track-for us. The ESS opener is at Utica-Rome Speedway, and Anthony has been planning on going. Right now, the forecast has isolated thundershowers at a 30 percent possibility of precipitation.
If we are able to race, this will be almost an historic day for me. I will not be home to watch the Indy 500 and the Coke 600. This hasn't happened in so long, I must have been a kid, and went to Thunder Road, or something.

The knee is getting better. As long as I am walking along on level ground, I do not have too much pain in it. Walked home from the Post Office, and worked a full shift Monday night. I was some sore by the end of the evening. It was hurting because there is a lot of shuffling around as I am sweeping around tables and desks and such.
Physical Therapy Tuesday. We'll see how that goes.
The new shoes have helped. Thanks, Margie. Yes, you can say it. You told me so.

DRY WEEKEND
Posted for Monday May 21st.................................

It ended up being a nice weekend. I thought we were supposed to get rained out. Fine by me.

We'll see how the new shoes work out this week. I'm hoping to be able to put in a full week.

I guess I have writer's block. I really don't have much to say.

Could you do me a favor?
If you use one of my photos on your website or anywhere else,
would you please give me credit?
I know some sites that have photos on them, have their name or website written on them in a rather obvious place. I'd rather not do that.
So, if you use one of my pictures for something, give ol' Uncle Mike credit for taking the picture.
Thanks! I'd appreciate it.
