INFORMATION FAIRFAX
Posted for Sunday September 9th............................
For such a small town, Fairfax certainly provides it's residents and former residents with plenty of news.
Currently, there are four means of getting updated Fairfax stuff.
Henry Raymond's site had all kinds of means to find out what going on in town. Forums, photo galleries, town office stuff.
Updated every hour, it seems. The top site for news about Fairfax.
Chris Santee has the Fairfax News and his FranklinOne.com site. If you want to find out what's going on politically in
town, that's the place.
Of course there's my site. I talk about things I want to. I usually stay out of the politics of things. I take pictures
of Fairfax and racing, and other things I find interesting.
Rick Burnham has now come out with The Fairfax Breeze, a weekly newspaper. There is also up-to-the-minute stuff at
www.fairfaxbreeze.com. His paper reminds me of the old Fairfax News, when Art Huse used to do it. General town stuff, with articles about the people
of Fairfax as well.
You can definitely say that the Information Superhighway runs through Fairfax. I think we could even qualify for a rest
area.

WEEKEND!!
Posted for Saturday September 8th........................
Hot and sticky Friday. Enjoy days like that. They will be running out soon enough.
Not sure what's happening the next couple of days. Know one thing. I'll be watching the Doctor Who spin-off, "Torchwood",
Saturday night instead of the race at Richmond. I'l still be able to catch the end of the race. Anything major happens, I
get it on the replays.
Got a nice shot of Gary Stewart lining the football field Friday. I think this is his third time as Picture of the Day.
Kinda like Sports Illustrated covers. Who's been featured the most? I'm guessing my nephew, Anthony. I think I may do a quick
count this weekend.
I'll let you know the results.

ELECTRICITY
Posted for Friday September 7th................................
One thing you see a lot of up in Quebec is powerlines and powerpoles.
The ones I took pictures of for today went along the thruway east of Montreal. There are also some massive towers
that sit outside of Autodrome Granby. We usually get there before the pitgate opens, so we are walking around stretching our
legs. You can hear the electricity snapping and crackling as it's passing through the lines overhead. Back in the Ice Storm
of 1998, many of those electricity towers loaded up with ice and collapsed.

HEROCARDS
Posted for Thursday September 6th............................
Anthony had some Herocards made up this year. Herocards are large 8X10 collecter's cards that are handed out to fans
at the races. There is no age limit in the pits at Granby and Drummondville, and the place is crawling with people, especially
kids, who go hauler to hauler, looking for Herocards. Some adults also collect them...........including me. I will actually
go around and get one of each. I used to do that back when we went to the races BEFORE we were racing a sprint car.
And I still do.
If the driver is around, they usually get asked to autograph it.
For the longest time, I felt bad that we didn't have any. Now we do. And it's nice to know, Anthony's card is now part
of some kid's, or person's collection. Kinda like having his own baseball card.

TALL CORN
Posted for Wednesday September 5th.............................
I mentioned in Tuesday's blog how high the corn is this year. Henry Raymond was going to post something about it on his
forum, but held off because I metioned it. Still can, Henry. You can always get pictures from Fletcher Road.
In any case, when I went up to get the mail Tuesday, I went over to McNall Road and snapped a couple of shots. I was
almost wishing a vehicle was coming along, so you could get a sense of how tall the corn really is this year. If the
football field wasn't there, it would look like a tunnel down the road.
I added a picture on the side from Rt. 128 so you can see how Raymond and Vera McNall's old house gets hidden
in back of the corn.
The other two pictures I had taken Saturday were around Pike River, Quebec.

SITE UPDATES
Posted for Tuesday September 4th.................................
I put together a September page for the Pictures of the Day.
I also added a page of sprint cars that I have taken pictures of this year so far. I am still getting photos together,
so that page is a work-in-progress. There's been a bunch of cars.
There was an article in the paper about the corn being very tall this year. You can see that by driving past Minor's
and seeing the corn across the road, or driving down McNall Road. As we were heading up to Drummondville Saturday, I took
a couple of pictures of barns and houses that were disappearing behind the corn.
And I got a shot as we were crossing the Richelieu River.

TIRED
Posted for Labor Day Monday September 3rd....................
A long race weekend can be tiring. Travel, track food, late nights, early mornings can take it's toll. A Granby/Drummond
weekend can do that. And Utica-Rome is a 10 hour round trip.
I thought some of opening the museum Sunday afternoon, but mowed the lawn instead.
Today's picture is a cropped version of a shot from the large pits stands off turns three and four. From where I was,
to the frontstretch is probably a 1/4 mile. The four-wide-parade-lap is going under some fireworks on the frontstretch. I
guess you can make it out.
I was riding in the frontseat of the hauler going up to Drummond on Saturday. I did some more "Drive-by-shootings", and
I will be posting those all week.

UPDATE
After some discussion, it was decided NOT to go to Utica-Rome Speedway. Everyone's worn out.

RACING TECHNOLOGY
I took a picture of Carl siping the rear tire. He is cutting six slices into the knobby part of the tire, maybe 1/8th
of an inch deep, maybe less.
When the tire is turning, the slits open allowing more grip, allowing the tire to work better, allowing heat to build
in the tire. More heat, better grip, better traction.
The racing........well, some nights good, some not so good. Anthony started the A-Main on the outside pole. However they
missed the set-up, and he went backwards. 25 green flag laps. No cautions. No wrecks. No one really dropped out. Anthony ended
up 19th.
Bubby Kerrick won. The night before, at Granby, he was out to lunch.
We'll see what happens Sunday at Utica-Rome.
