It's been a long time coming but there does appear to be a light at the end of the tunnel for the Skowhegan boys soccer team. Last week the Indians battled to the end, securing a 2-2 tie with Mt. Blue, scoring with 14 seconds remaining in regulation.

For Skowhegan, it was the first time in several seasons it has managed a tie or a win against a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A team, other than Nokomis, which has dropped to Class B this season.

This season the Indians have battled to stay in games, taking undefeated Bangor down to the wire in a 2-0 loss. "The kids didn't give up," Skowhegan coach Scott Pillsbury said. "We were relaxed, kept our cool and discipline."

Trailing 1-0 at halftime against the Cougars and 2-1 late in the game, the Indians looked for a break when Mt. Blue's goalkeeper was called for a delay of game for holding the ball longer than the allowed six seconds.

Sebastien Dumont took the kick and found teammate Felix Xie, who knocked home the tying goal as the seconds in regulation ticked away.

"Sebastien's pass was just perfect, Felix hit the inside of the far post," Pillsbury said. "It was nice because we've had a number of those scored against us. For some teams it may seem like a small thing, but for us it is a real positive. Tying that game made things a lot easier at practices and the kids seem to sense we have something to build on."
