Bucksport Area Cultural Arts Society Minutes
of November 30, 2004 The regular meeting of BACAS
was called to order by President George Hanson at 6:40 p.m.
Those also in attendance were: Joe Kennedy, Peter Clain, Cindy Lozier, Ken Lozier, Mark Neslusan and Lisa Whitney. RECORDING SECRETARY’S REPORT: With a spelling change of “coupkle”
to couple in the previous meeting minutes, on motion by Joe, seconded by Peter, with all in favor, the minutes were approved
as amended. CORRESPONDING SECRETARY’S REPORT: Cindy reported that
the seats and plaques have all been updated and that we will need to start a new Donors and Supporters frame. On motion by
Joe, seconded by Lisa, with all in favor, the report was accepted as presented. TREASURER’S
REPORT: Checking account balance is $1238.76, while the Savings account balance is $1137.85, for a total balance of $2376.61.
The major expense for the month was the sound system in the amount of $4957.00. Mark suggested that we mention Fred Merriam’s
name in articles and programs in the following manner: “Through the generosity of friends and family of Fred Merriam,
we were able to upgrade the sound system in the auditorium.” On motion by Lisa, seconded by Joe, with all in favor,
the Treasurer’s report was accepted as read. TECHNOLOGY REPORT:
Ken was on hand as our new webmaster. We were encouraged to visit the site at www.bacas.org. We will be taking a field trip to the high school later this evening so that he can run through the
new site with the Board. On motion by Mark, seconded by George, with all in favor, the report was accepted as presented. BUCKSPORT COMMUNITY THEATRE: Joe gave the group the new website for BCT, which
is www.bucksporttheatre.org, and was created by Brian Leeman. BCT will hold its next meeting on December 7th, at which time the group
will decide its summer production. There is a possibility that the summer production sets will be constructed by Penobscot
Job Corps. Four performances of THE ODD COUPLE will be performed on January 14, 15, 21 and 22, with snow dates set for the
Sundays following the above mentioned days. Show times will be at 7:30 p.m. and tickets will be available at Bookstacks, and at the door the day of the
performances. Lisa raised the concern that had been shared with her regarding a brief bit of nudity in the play. The Rules
of Use for the auditorium prohibits nudity, as well as tobacco use, amongst its stipulations. Joe assured the group that there
would be no infractions of this nature. BCT continues to put together a sub-committee charged with preparing by-laws for the
group. Also, the issue of permitting line changes within the line budget, with the exception of salaries and stipends
was discussed and sanctioned. On motion by Mark, seconded by George, with all in favor, the BCT report was accepted as presented.
OLD BUSINESS: We have received a bill from the Middle School for the
use of the auditorium during the Polholka concert in the amount of $140.00. After a rather lengthy discussion, it was decided
that there was a distinct need to define auditorium usage by BACAS, particularly since we are the entity responsible
for adding the enhancements to the facility. It was also suggested that we define duties for a facility manager, as well as
a matrix for individualized responsibilities in the auditorium itself. The issue of icy conditions at the last of the fall
drama production was brought up and should be addressed with maintenance. NEW
BUSINESS: Lisa asked the group to discuss the possibility of placing an advertisement and a "social paragraph" in the upcoming,
and brand new, edition of THE SOURCEBOOK from THE ENTERPRISE. It was agreed that the BACAS shield/insignia should be used.
Lisa volunteered to write the brief article and work with the staff at THE ENTERPRISE to meet the deadline, which is in two
days time. On motion by Joe, seconded by Cindy, with all in favor, the motion to pursue the two PR pieces was approved.
At this point, (approx. 8:00 p.m.) the members adjourned to the computer lab at the high school to view
the new website.
Respectfully submitted,
Lisa Whitney Recording Secretary
