Bucksport Area Cultural Arts Society

Minutes of July 25, 2006 Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Bucksport Area Cultural Arts Society was called to order by President George Hanson at 6:42 p.m. Also in attendance were: Joe Kennedy, Peter Clain, Cindy Lozier, Mark Neslusan, Brian Leeman, and Lisa Whitney.

It was decided to focus the meeting around the production of OKLAHOMA! and the BACAS booth at the Festival. Ticket sales after the first weekend of performances are now at $5200.00. Marketing costs thus far, have totaled $1200.00.

   Folks shared the following thoughts:

Joe was pleased and proud of the production and was totally impressed! He indicated that he thought the sound was better, but that there are a few issues with the sound board. He also offered that with the warmer temps, we might want to offer water for sale during the intermissions. Signage on the A-frames should be production specific, rather than generic. He’d also like to see Bucksport Community Theatre’s mission statement in the program in the future.

Cindy mentioned the lack of janitorial services were again in evidence at the auditorium. She thought it would be wise to mention BCT in the program as the sponsoring entity for the production. She indicated that a woman from Massachusetts had given her $8.00 for postage to keep her posted on upcoming events. Cindy signed her up for a Sr. citizen membership. The quilt has cleared $453.69 at this point, and  tickets will be available at the Festival booth, which Cindy and Aimee will take care of, as well as at the final performances. They will also have the mugs available.

Mark felt that the addition of the violin added “warmth” to the orchestra in this year’s production and he indicated that most of the orchestra members had volunteered their services.

Peter also thought that water was a good idea for the intermissions. He indicated that due to his absences, he did not feel he should accept the stipend set up for the Director’s position. After a brief discussion by other members of the Board, it was decided that a check should be cut for him, and if he wishes, he can turn it back to BCT. He indicated that he would like to see that money be earmarked for additional lighting. Finally, he mentioned that there had been an “issue” in the Control Room.

Lisa complimented the production, which she had seen the previous Sunday, and mentioned how amazed she was by the silent set changes, She also mentioned the issues of the sconce lights that were burned out, as well as the overhead lights that were also burned out. She felt those issues should have been taken care of prior to the performances. Everyone agreed that this would fall under the job description of a facility manager.

George commented that he looking forward to seeing the show this coming Sunday afternoon.

Finally, potential BACAS members were mentioned. They include Judy Belton, Johanna Dorr, Mandy Victor, and Mary Cuskelly. There being no further discussion, the meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Lisa Whitney
