Scope of Practice: Beyond the Basics in ethics

Intended for social services providers to satisfy Ethics CEU requirements.  As well, we hope to assist the social services environment with better understanding the complexities of going outside your scope of practice which often lead to ethical issues and role violations.

    • What it isn’t.
    • Our roles in the context of the jobsite and the easy ways in which one can violate it.
    • How does it impact other industries?

2.   Understanding your role

    • Look at violations or errors in judgment online
    • Using Vignettes to discuss how to be clear about your role.
    • Round table discussion regarding current participants possible violations.
    • Code of Ethics review

3.  How to recognize when someone is operating outside their scope of practice

    • Skill building around roles, ethics, and communication/conflict
    • Preparing for differing viewpoints
    • Challenging the dominant system

4.    Moving forward

    • Know your organizational policy
    • Know your role and the ethics in your field.
    • Find value in being competent.  Not just obedient.
    • Be prepared for Pitfalls
    • Action steps.
