This site is a tribute to skateboarding in the late 70's. The links on the left are of skating locations in and around
Racine, WI and a few that I visited on a road trip during summer break from high school.
My name is Tom Wible and I began skateboarding in the early 70's when I was 10. Like many kids I made boards from
old roller skates and boards I found in my Dad's shop. Then I bought a toy skateboard, a "Malibu" which was
red and had cheap urethane wheels and loose ball bearings.
By the time I was 16, I was into vert riding. Biddle's
Skateboard Palace and Surfin' Turf had been built in Milwaukee and I was skating there regularly as well as a few local
Racine halfpipes at friend's houses. The pages here contain photos from the Racine area and also a trip I took to Apple
and Cherry Hill parks with Kurt Mohr.
In 1980 I joined the Navy and left skating behind. Great memories and these
photos are all that are left.
