JOSEPH ALBA [Alby in will] SEWALL, the son of David and Mary C (Eldridge) Sewall of York, Maine [marr 12 Dec, 1837 - NEHGR v113p197] was born in York, Sept, 1839 [1900 census]. He died in York, Maine on 26 Nov,1922 [NARA Pension Index Card], and was buried in the 1st Parish Cemetery in York, ME [YCCI p2265].
He married in Kittery, Maine on 3 Oct, 1862 (during the short furlough between mustering in and the regiments deployment to Virginia) to JANE ANNE MUCHMORE of Kittery [VR of Kittery p365, Joseph "of York"; He was "of Kittery" when intents filed 29 Sept, 1862 -VR of Kittery p406]. She was born in NH, Sept, 1844 [1900 census] and died in 1924 [YCCI, p2265], the daughter of John and Mary Muchmore, with whom she lived during the 1850 Portsmouth,NH census.
Prior to the war, he worked as a sash and blind maker in York [1860 census], as did his father. Following this, he was seen as a house carpenter, and lived his entire life in York [1870-1920 censuses]. His will, dated 21 Nov,1922, approved and allowed on 9 Jan, 1923, left his son Albert $50. and rest of estate to wife Jane [York Cty Prob #59974]
Though the 1900 census shows Jane having 5 children, one living, only one was ever seen in census records (and no young children buried w/ them):

I. ALBERT EDWARD was born Sept, 1871 [1900 census], (likely) in York, ME, and died in 1942 [YCCI p2265]. He is buried with parents in 1st Parish Cemetery, York. He married on 9 Feb, 1901 to ELIZA J ANTHONY [probably ABERNATHY] of Philadelphia, PA [ME Marriages]. She was born in Northern Ireland in 1871, and had immigrated here in 1890 [1920 census]. She died in 1947 and is buried w/ husband in his parents plot. He worked as a laborer, and lived in York. They had an adopted daughter, Annie E, born ca 1914 (age 6 in 1920; a.16 in 1930).
