To aid in the search for your Twenty-Seventh Maine ancestor, I have made up individual town pages
with a roll of those soldiers whose residence was listed for that particular place. It must be remembered
that in some cases, when a town's own quota of volunteers was filled, it's citizen was "given"
to another town in order to complete their required levy. Residents from outside of York County also answered
the call to arms, and were given to these towns.
Statistics given for
each person include rank (at discharge or muster out), the company they served in, their age at enlistment (not always
accurate!), and residence given when signed up.
NOTE: I have now created individual pages for
each of the 949 men, which I am linking to their particular town of residence. While each man's page has his
enlistment information, ALOT of them do not have a biography placed online yet. I am using these
town pages so I have quick access to a soldiers page, and can add their grave photos and bio's. When their
page is done, I will then link to their name on the main page of this site.
