GENERAL

Founded in 1879 as the National Archery Association (NAA), it is one of the oldest sports organizations in the United States. In 2004, the NAA trademarked the name, USA Archery (USAA), to readily fit into its role in doing business as the National Governing Body for the Olympic Sport of Archery.

USA Archery  www.usarchery.org is the National Governing Body (NGB) for archery in the United States and is a member organization of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the International Archery Association (FITA) also known as World Archery.  www.worldarchery.org

THE JOAD PROGRAM STRUCTURE

The USAA's Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) program follows FITA equipment rules just as USA Archery does. The program also follows USA Archery dress code at Tournaments. To make it more appealing to younger archers, JOAD has developed additional age categories for competition that include separate divisions for male and female archers for Olympic (Recurve) bows and Compounds (with pulleys).  JOAD clubs have a special achievement program. www.usaarcheryjoad.org
