The Essex Junction Lions Club is a civic
organization of volunteers serving Essex Junction
and the surrounding
area.
Lions Clubs worldwide took up sight conservation as their major goal
after a speech by Helen Keller at the Lions Convention in 1925. At the time,
Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become "Knights of the Blind", a challenge
that has become a rallying cry for Lions projects around the world.
" Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement; nothing can be
done without hope." (Helen Keller 1903)
" Many persons have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness.
It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy
purpose." (Helen Keller 1933)
" As of November 30, 2010, Lions Clubs International had 1,342,901
menbers in 45,977 clubs and 743 districts in 206 countries and geographic areas.
