August 28, 2000 - Day 172 Hi All! Just back from a nice weekend in New Hampshire exploring new places, and a stopover in Boston. Our visit to Boston was good. Dave had blood drawn, and all the results were good (except I forgot to get a print out of the results, so I can't tell you what the counts are -- the doctor said they were good, tho). Then we met with the doctor for a little while and asked lots of questions. We told him our concern about Dave developing gvhd (graft vs. host disease), and he understood. But as he said, he can't predict what can happen. After that visit, Dave had a bone marrow biopsy. That's where the doctor took some marrow from Dave's hip bone, and a sliver of bone, and sent it all off to the lab to be looked at. The lab will determine if there are any leukemia cells lurking around. The doctor encouraged Dave to have the transfusion done, but we agreed to wait until the results of the bone marrow biopsy come back, then we'll talk with the doctor again and decide what to do. It will take about two weeks to get the results back. In the meantime, most all of the restrictions Dave had been under have been lifted, and one of his medications was reduced from 3 pills a day to 2. He's also been given the okay to return to work part-time. Dave's back is starting to get pretty sore, but it should only last a day or two (we hope!). Then he'll be off and running again (well, walking maybe!). Our trip to New Hampshire was nice. We went to the lakes region -- about in the middle of the state. We stayed at a little motel in a very touristy area (much like Lake George, for those of you familiar with it), but drove around the lake on Sunday, and only a mile or so outside the busy area it became rural. It was like that all the way around the lake -- a town, then nothing for miles. It was good to get away (to someplace other than Boston). We were both ready for a change of scenery. We still like Vermont better, tho!! So that's about it from here. Hope you all had a nice weekend. Talk to you soon. Allison
