June 17, 2000 -- Day 100 -- HAPPY DAY 100!
Hi Everyone! Today marks the 100th day since Dave's bone marrow transplant. Time sure flies! Day 100 is the first milestone on his path of recovery. He can now go out in public, he no longer needs to wear his mask when he's out and about, he can start eating fresh fruits and vegetables again (at home). He can eat at restaurants (cooked food only). The danger of some of the early complications has passed, but that doesn't mean we can let our guard down. He still needs to be very careful about avoiding germs. (Actually, because he's been doing so well, the doctor gave him the okay to eat at restaurants around Day 60 -- which made our trips to Boston easier -- no more packing food and trying to find a hotel with a microwave and refrigerator, and to eat fresh fruits and veggies at home, where we can be sure they're washed well, on Day 88.)

Here's Dave sitting on our back deck. It's hard to tell, but he really does have hair! |

Dave is feeling really good. His energy has returned, so that we've been able to walk around the block, he's been out driving -- both with me and alone, and he's getting more involved in work, so that's helping to ease the boredom. His mustache is fully grown in, and his hair is well on it's way. And his attitude is still positive. We'd like to thank everyone for their positive thoughts, prayers, cards, messages, and all the support you've offered in so many ways. It all helped -- and continues to help -- us make it through a difficult time. As we continue on this journey, please keep Dave in your thoughts. He's not out of the woods, but he has reached a nice, sunny clearing! It's raining here in Burlington today, but that's okay. It's Day 100, so no matter what, it's a day to celebrate! Allison & Dave p.s. Another reason to celebrate -- Jon, Dave's brother and bone marrow donor, and his wife Andrea recently became the proud parents of Seth Andrew, a new brother for Jac. Everyone is doing great!
