March 10, 2000 -- Day 1 The counting begins. Jon was discharged about 11:00. He and Donnie came down to visit Dave before they left. Jon wanted to make sure he saw Dave, since he doesn't think he'll feel like coming back out later. His back is pretty sore. He's been taking percoset, and that sure helps! Dave is doing okay. He's tired. He was sick this morning, but was able to hold down an english muffin for breakfast and a cheese sandwich and jello for lunch. That's good! He's been sleeping a lot. We went for a walk around the unit this morning, and he sat in the chair for a while. Tonight they'll start giving him intravenous nutrition (called total parenteral nutrution, or TPN). It looks like Gatorade. It will give him nutrients he's not getting because he can't eat much. We went for another walk around the unit, and he's working on a puzzle. We turned the news on to catch the weather. Someone told us it's supposed to snow up north. As long as our driveway doesn't flood! Talk to you soon. Allison |
