March 6, 2000 -- The fun begins

It's Monday, so by now we've been through the two rounds of chemotherapy Dave has to go through. (For those of you who are interested, he was given Cytoxan.) He's also started his regimen of antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, antinauseas, and anti everything else they can treat him for. The chemo made him sick on Sunday, so they gave him an antinausea which made him sleep. Most of them do. He would wake up occasionally, but drift right back to sleep. Heck, I think I'd rather sleep all the time than feel nauseous.

Today he started radiation. He had one treatment this morning at 10:30, and he'll go back down about 4:30 for the second one. We for got to bring a CD down this morning, so he was stuck listening to the soundtrack from Sleepless in Seattle. Not quite his kind of music! We won't forget next time!

The nurses are great. So far we've had a different one every night and they've all been really nice.

I'm doing well, better than I thought I might be. I don't need to worry about things the way I did before we got here. I can let the hospital people worry now. And all the other things I had to worry about -- where to stay, parking, walking at night -- have worked themselves out. My big excitement on Saturday was going grocery shopping. Sunday I went and walked around Brookline, and was proud of myself because I found my way back to the house without getting lost! Hey, you've got to take the little things when you can get them!

That's about it for now. We're taking it a day at a time.

I'll talk to you soon.
