April 10, 2000 -- Day 32 -- Doctor's visit in Boston

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to give you the latest update.

Dave had a doctor's appointment today at Dana Farber. It's Day 32, and 10 days since our last visit. The doctor still says Dave is doing great -- he and the nurse kept telling Dave how great he looks, that he looks normal (imagine that!!). His counts are continuing to go up -- white cells are at 2.5, red cells at 30.9, and platelets at 88. All looking good! They're pleased at how much he's eating and drinking (and smoking -- NOT!). He's doing all the things he's supposed to be doing to help him get better.

Last night (after an extra-long drive to Boston, leaving Burlington in a blizzard!), we noticed Dave had developed a hive-like rash on his hands and the undersides of his forearms (I thought maybe it was nerves from riding in the car with me). We put some moisturizing lotion on it, which made it stop itching. We mentioned it to the doctor, and he said it was probably a mild case of Graft vs. Host disease, but wasn't concerned about it. He gave Dave a prescription for topical steroids, and said if it gets worse to call.

We were (ok, I was) thinking worst-case scenario -- he's got GVH, they're going to want to re-admit him, we'll have to stay in Boston, I only brought one change of clothes. All unfounded, of course. The doctor is very pleased with Dave's progress, and we don't need to go back for 2 weeks! Yea!!

So that's the latest. Hope if you got snow, it's melted, and if you're somewhere else in the country, spring is all it's supposed to be!

Talk to you soon!

Allison
