March 24, 2000 -- Day 15

One more day to go, then Dave is free!

One of his Hickman catheters was removed today. He still has one in -- this is the IV line that will be used to take blood and give transfusions. These were surgically implanted when he checked in, so the surgeon came back today to remove one of them.

We packed up Dave's goodies (all his cards, hats, socks, pictures, CDs, blimps, etc.) and I started bringing it all back to Shannon's House. Hopefully we won't have too much more to take with us tomorrow. The nurses keep giving me these big bags with supplies in them -- gloves, masks, alcohol wipes, etc., so I have them to carry back, too.

My sisters Jeanette and Marjorie and my father came to visit today. The poor things got lost in Boston. : (      I had e-mailed them directions, but they didn't get there on time, and the directions they had weren't the clearest, so they took an unexpected 1 hour trip around town. Meantime, I'm waiting at Shannon's House for them, starting to worry that something has happened. I finally called the nurses station (because Dave was having his Hickman removed and didn't answer his phone) and she told me my sister was sitting in the waiting room. It hadn't been a very good trip for them, but once we all got together and came to see Dave, things settled down.

Speaking of Dave, he's feeling pretty good. His biggest complaint is fatigue. His spirits are good, tho, and he's ready to get outside again.

So that's the latest from this neck of the woods (yeah right, like there's really woods here!!).

Hope you're all well and enjoying some springtime weather.

Talk to you soon!
