March 26, 2000 -- Day 17 -- Fresh Air!

Greetings!

It's Sunday, around noon, and a beautiful, sunny day here in Boston!

We had a good night last night. We both woke up frequently -- too hot, worried about Dave's Hickman line, I was afraid to breathe on Dave, etc. -- just little stuff like that, but otherwise uneventful. We're getting a slow start today, but that's okay. We slept in until about 9:15 (once we finally got to sleep!), then had coffee and breakfast, and now we're taking showers.

I'm going to take Dave outside. We need to run to the store, so that will give us a chance to get some fresh air. Dave will wait in the car while I go shopping, but at least he'll be outside, and won't need to wear a mask as long as he's not near people.

We finally got out of the hospital just before 3:00 yesterday. I went and got the car, and one of the nursing assistants brought Dave down to meet me. I'll let Dave tell you what it was like being outside for the first time in 3 weeks.

Hi all - please excuse typing as my mind is working faster than the fingers. I'm free at last! It was a strange feeling as they wheeled me out of the hospital and to the car - the wind was blowing, but it was warm (for us Vermonters) in the 50's, I had a weird feeling of joy and panic at the same time...it was quite the buzz. Allison drove me around a little so I could enjoy(?) the fresh(?) air and Boston drivers. I did get to see green grass and flowers blooming and it felt great. Now I'm getting used to sitting around the house instead of laying around at the hospital. Feeling weak but happy and getting better every minute. -DC-

So there you go. We'll keep you posted on Dave's progress.

Hope you're all enjoying this springlike day, wherever you are (and hopefully it's springlike there!).

Talk to you soon!

Allison
