A Republican Chairman needs to bring many strengths to the job.....
I have outlined 4 areas that are critical to our Party success.
1. communications
2. organization (grassroots)
3. outreach
4. fundraising
MY STRENGTHS
1. Legislative Experience
My ten years of experience in the NH Legislature gives me an immediate grasp of the issues that define
the differences between Republicans and Democrats. I won't need briefings or opposition research before I
can respond to the media as counterpoint to actions by the Democrats. Several times we have had this tactical advantage
in the past when state legislators served in the legislature and also served as the Chairman of our party. (Donna Sytek, Rhona
Charbonneau, and Elsie Vartanian)
2. Communications Skills
I have been known during my decade plus in New Hampshire politics as one of the most quoted voices in our state.
I've not only been a sought-out source by the print, radio and television media on local issues, but have often been interviewed
by news sources all over the country. I am known as someone who knows the issues, as someone who doesn't fear going
on record, and as someone who can be relied on to deliver insight in a consice and quotable manner.
I've included below "some" of the media that I have been interviewed by in recent years.
I am also committed to upgrading our website and establishing an electronic newsletter to stay in touch with our
activists and to keep them well informed.
3.Organization Skills and Campaign Experience
We must re-establish a well co-ordinated and well trained network of county and town committees. I've been on the
ballot 17 times (won 14) and know what candidates need to do to get elected. An organized and trained county and town
committee is invaluable to finding candidates and getting them elected. This will be a priority of my chairmanship.
The focus needs to be more on the 500 races at the legislative and county level, not primarily on the top 5 races.
This past year I served as Chair of the Platform Committee and demonstrated my organizational skills in holding hearing
in every county of the state, accepting and debating almost 200 suggestions, and moving 79 forward at the state convention
with no divisive fights and in less than a half an hour. I had a great team on the platform committee and will use a
similar team-based model in restructuring our party organization. I plan to hold a weekend retreat this spring with
activists (similar to the very successful one we had a dozen years ago in Freedom) to kick off our organization efforts.
4. Fund raising ideas.
We need to be creative and think outside the box in order to broaden our donor base. While big ticket donors
are very important, having a large block of "small investors" not only will bring in consistent money, but will create a feeling
of ownership of the party. I am told we have 32,000 names on our email list. I will establish a challenge to these
cyber Republicans to pledge just $2 a month for the day-to-day support of our party. That will leave funds from
our annual appeal drive and the generous donors for election efforts. We also need to hold at least two big events a
year (semi annual dinners) in the Spring and Fall.
I will also launch a targeted fund raising effort to pay off the phone jamming settlement in full as soon as possible.
We don't need the Democrats holding that over our heads for the next five years.
Over the past dozen years I have attended countless Lincoln Day dinners, summer bar-b-ques, and political events
all across our state in the support of local, county, and state GOP efforts. I have been a delegate to the NH Republican
Convention six times and attended the Republican NATIONAL Convention in 2000 and 2004. I've come to know many GOP
activists and look forward to working as "TEAM GOP" to take back our majority in the next election cycle.
