From our local "old" shelter, Miles was brought to a pet-supply store for
a wider audience. He got loose in the store for 4 days before being caught, terrified. He was adopted, but
refused to come out from under their bed. They returned him to the "new" shelter, where I volunteer, so I worked
with him, trying to patiently ease him of his fears. 1 staffer felt he should go home with me, but I felt
Dudley would react badly. One day, I noticed Miles's picture had been taken down. I was surprised at my relief when I
was informed they just wanted to get a better picture of him! At age 1 yr., 9 mo., he went home with me, & not one
hiss, cuff or growl passed Dudley's lips!
Miles is VERRRRY vocal!!! He can double syllables, so it sounds like "Maw Maw"!!!
I've never heard so much variation in the feline vocabulary as he posesses, nor have I seen another kitter with such
long whiskers!!! They're over 5 1/2" long! Now 7½, he's very
relaxed, though still sometimes afraid of things like yardsticks, rope...even cat toys on a wand. I think they remind him
of things used to lure or prod him out when he was loose in that big store.
Most favorite things: #1:ME! Next favorite things are: #2: crunchies fresh out of the bag
(which he can no longer have, due to urinary trouble recently) and #3: shredding paper (if I don't keep a close
eye- those 2 & 3 can be connected!); also, watching squirrels and that same nutritional yeast Dudley goes ga-ga over!
He loves to run up & down the hall when he's feeling the rips, and
when he runs he looks like a rabbit from the back- both legs kick up at once!
Always good-natured, a real piece of sunshine and big chunk of rainbow- he loves his "Maw Maw" &
I love him too!
