Before leaving town I thought
it best to check tire pressure which had been holding up well and made
my way to Dick's Wheel Shop at 411 Mohawk St. Herkimer, NY. Noticing the snowshoe rental
sign overhead, I entered the shop and was promptly asked, "May I help
you?" Of course my response was, "Yes, I'd like to rent a pair of
snowshoes." Well, that sort of set the tone for the visit and I truly
appreciated the
humorous nature of the folks here.
I was permitted to use their bicycle
pump and grateful to meet a former police officer who not only showed
me the way to the trail but also followed up on my request to call the
Rindge PD and leave a message for Sgt. Anair, saying there had been a
Whiting Sighting in Herkimer and that John was doing OK. I would like
to thank the man for doing that for me but don't know how to reach
him. Maybe a call to the bike shop is in
order.
Out of necessity, this was a limited pictures day, so Google was used to provide the following.
Arrived at America's Best Value Inn
located in Amsterdam, only to discover it had been sold and closed.
Called David ... he got real busy on computer and phone and found a
room for me near Schenectady, 17 miles away. I actually welcomed riding
off into the night after having a splendid 50 mile or so ride
this day.
What's happening to my road?
Good grief!
The attendant yelled, "Where do you
think you're going?" ~ "For help", I said and called the police.
It all turned out OK and I arrived
safely around 11:00 PM to a beautiful room like this one below.
A pizza shop brought supper along
with my breakfast choice. ~ 70 miles today, not bad at all.
