Dyson Stowaway

I actually think my wife reached out to have Dyson send me a vacuum to test.  Why you ask?  She knew if I had to test a vacuum, that I would actually have to use the vacuum to write a review.  Pretty clever if you ask me!

Well the Dyson Stowaway sucks!  Wait, wait, wait, that is the best compliment you can give to a vacuum.  It doesn’t just suck, it continues to suck which is even a bigger compliment.  I have had this unit now for several months and to date it has not lost any of the original suction.  Now I have read reviews of other vacuums and people praise them, then you read the same review from end users and you hear the vacuum was great for the first month or so.  Take for example the “Roomba” robotic vacuum.  I have read review after review saying how great this vacuum was.  So like other suckers, I went out and bought one for my wife.  It is great until you use it more than 5 times.  Then it looses suction, and goes around in circles.  Even the factory replacement sent directly from Roomba ended up as a wall decoration because we barely use it.

Right out of the box, I could tell the Dyson was different.  Their patented “Root Cyclone” technology really makes this a powerful vacuum.  It also has all the accessories you need which includes a motorized brushbar for rugs, a hard wood or bare floor cleaner, small brush, crevice tool and upholstery cleaner.  All that and it is compact as well, it really doesn’t take up a lot of closet space which is an added bonus.  I, like many others, are sick of going into the closet to get my coat and have to move a vacuum out of the way so I can get it off the clothes hanger.  The Dyson Stowaway is so compact; it fits nicely under all the coats so you don’t even know it’s there.

As I was cleaning, I was thinking of some of the flaws of this vacuum.  I realized they are not flaws, they were more of a wish list that I would like to see.  For example the brushbar has a swivel head which helps maneuver around coffee tables and such, but makes it a little difficult when cleaning the stairs.  It would be nice if you could lock the head so it wouldn’t swivel, it would make some things a little easier to vacuum.  One other “wish list” item I would like to see would be a longer power cord.  With that being said, a nice feature is the no hassle cord retraction.  A push of a button and the cord winds into the unit which helps keep the cord tangle free.

There are a lot of other really nice features to the Dyson Stowaway.  I like the fact that there is no bag, the collection bin is easy to empty and clean.  In addition there is a HEPA filter, clean exhaust air and an impressive five-year warranty.  Luckily I haven’t had to use the warranty, so I can’t let you know how it works.  This unit is so well built, I’m not sure if I will ever have to use the warranty, but it’s nice to know it’s there.

I will tell you I am no expert when it comes to vacuums.  I can tell you that every time my wife has used the Dyson Stowaway, she raves about how great it is.  So with the experiences that I have had (which my wife loves) and the compliments my wife gives I can say with confidence that the Dyson Stowaway is definitely a “Gotta Have Gadget!”
