Why we made this site

Citizen Petition #6 and Amendment #1 of Article 3 seek to complete a swath of Limited Industrial Zoning from Searles' Chapel all the way to the Rail Trail, along the new 111 and Lamson Road.

Vote Wisely on March 11th

VOTE NO to send these identical proposals back for further study. We have a slate wiped clean by the re-routing of 111 and the relocation of Lamson Road. This is an opportunity not to be squandered on Limited Industrial Zoning.

See Sample Ballots in the "Independent" or at Town Hall.

  • There are three separate ballots - the Town Ballot, the School Ballot, and the Zoning Ballot.
  • The first page of the Zoning Ballot has BOTH Citizen Petition #6 AND Planning Board Amendment #1.
  • BOTH must be defeated to protect Searles Chapel and our neighborhood, and to allow for the most beneficial redevelopment of the cleared land.

Area of proposed zoning change

The zoning change proposed would include lots inside the blue line.

A "NO" vote
  • asks for time to get accurate maps
  • permits reconsideration of the Master Plan as it applies to the new infrastructure (Rail Trail extension and new roads)
  • allows zoning to be proposed that will make best use of this area

It WILL be developed - you've seen development sprouting up everywhere!  Let's aim for development that will provide the MAXIMAL benefit to the town (think: tax base), that will be most useful to the town as a whole, and that will be sensitive to the residents of Windham that call this side of town "home".
