A kindly old man took this photo of me where the
Niagara River and
the
Erie Canal meet. When he was asked if I may take his
picture to show
the folks back home, he replied, "I'd rather not have my
picture taken,
I'm wanted in 7 countries." Nothing like running into
another humorous
old geezer right off the bat.
View looking eastward into the canal from my starting location
Same boat seen in previous photo, entering the Niagara River
The steel structure in the distance is a no longer in use Bascule type
RR bridge. Large pic here.
One of a few neat looking buildings seen in a dog park located on
an island along my route
You will see a number of similar trail pic's taken during
enroute pedalling pauses.
The object over the canal is
a guard gate. In the event of a break in a canal wall, guard gates can
be lowered, to prevent water from long stretches of the canal being
released, thus, isolating the damaged section. (Perhaps I should have
taken this photo from the sunny side) More about guard gates here.
Above is a view looking east from the Pine St. bridge in Lockport, below is the bridge.
Ran into numerous roadblocks like this ... the ganders always
hissed at me.
This group readily made the way clear for me.
What a welcome sight Albion was
after a 50 mile
bicycle ride with a stopover in Medina to visit the railroad museum and have a good supper in a
local restaurant. On this day I discovered what a
fifty mile bike ride feels like. Ask me about it sometime.
